Matt I don't really care how busy he's been (not a sole in the entire dealership the last two occasions I was in) a simple email or quick phone call to say yes I've got your email give me a few days and I'll see what I can do. It's as if he doesn't think I actually want to buy a car. The deal on the table yesterday is only 500 quid shy of carwow but it's 1k shy of drive the deal. Need to find out about this must be delivered before 31st December statement on the vw offers page.

Its not like he is the only VW dealer/salesman in the country. if they don't come back to you, they don't want your business, so move on. They aren't the cheapest anyway so not sure why you bother with them.

Plenty of fish in the sea and places to buy cars cheaply, my 3 local dealers didn't get more than 20 mins of my time on price, but the dealer in Colchester wanted my business so job done...

@ Monkeyhanger your scenario reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2LLB9CGfLs  you sure the canteen wasn't upstairs  I love it when they walk off to speak to someone, i never believe it, but i think it happened to me last new car too...

Unless I can get a deal from the sales guy today then I'll do the same. He seemed very keen to do a deal before month end.

Have you huffed Mick, Chris? Maybe he'll try to avoid us both in the future - my R caused him a lot of hassle when it ended up taking an eternity. I tried not to badger him, but anticipation of a car that arrives 4 months later than you expect it to, I probably pestered the life out of him and drove a very hard bargain (he was up and down the stairs to his Manager's office 4 times during the negotiations (never seen that before in the 2 previous cars I bought from him).

Does anyone actually enjoy this process anymore? I vowed the last time it happened never to go through a charade like that again. It's utter bollocks! I've bought all my cars remotely over the internet ever since - and thank god.

Good luck to you guys though

He'd never done it before on the previous 2 cars I bought, or the one my Dad bought - not sure why he'd have started doing it then for my R. If he'd always done it, i'd have thought it was part of the act that many car sales people partake in, but he knew I wasn't budging on discount or p/x price. He had changed from Sunderland branch to Durham, and Durham is the posher one where it has always been harder to get discounts - I think he's got less discretion of his own these days in the Durham branch.

It was by far the best deal I had ever got out of him, and the p/x price was a lot better than many here were getting for their own chopped in GTDs. Buying remotely is always a ball-ache for the p/x (if you have one).

To be fair I used Carwow to save on all the haggling BS, but he still had to walk off to ask the manager for some random thing I wanted at the time.  I think it was that i didn't want "true coat", wheel insurance, gap insurance, optional vent insurance, just the car at agreed price under RRP, how unusual..

I've been luck with fantastic dealer recommendations from forum members. So haven't had to use DTD or Broadspeed for a while. I bought my current GTI from James at Medway. Lovely guy. And I'm buying my next car, a Beemer, from another forum recommendation. So I've benn lucky. Both great sales guys, amazing discounts and bought remotely. No shop floor shenanigans.

All those things are virtually pure profit for the dealer so it increases their take substantially. They get huffy when you don't want them  Mind you had a salesman yesterday pretty much tell me to my face that I'd wasted two hours of his time as I didn't think the deal was good enough. Cost him a sale now and forever.

Not only for the dealer, but specifically for the car salesperson - there is a lot of commission in those non-factory items. Me and Chris (McMaddy) always used to get "free" GAP insurance because if it was included in the deal, the salesperson personally gets about 25% of the RRP. I screwed the margins down on the R that much according to my usual Salesman that there was nothing left to give me "free" GAP. He said he'd have loved to give me the GAP as he'd have had £75 commission in his pocket from it, as it was he said he made only £56 selling me my R

I think he's full of crap matt to be honest and this week's non contact has just cemented that for me. Young sales lad at Silverlink was brilliant last week and if the user R or gti had been what I'd wanted he would of got my money. Same with yesterday at Lookers in Northallerton, young lad very pleasant seemed an all round nice fella. I'm not expecting to be friends with a salesman I buy a car off but I think having a decent relationship helps. Considering I've bought two brand new cars from the same guy you would have thought he would at least had the decency to ring back.
His loss is another dealers gain and I might not even get my car serviced with them again.
