Fix or replace Golf G60 instument cluster
« on: 22 August 2016, 13:39 »
Hi.

My instrument cluster has a burnt out copper track on the blue plastic circuit "sheet" on the back.

Does anyone know of a good place that could repair it or if I can use one from a different model?

Are the blue plastic circuit "sheets" the same between different models?

For reference the cluster part number is: 191 919 033 PG and it made by VDO.

Cheers.

Should be the same through the 8v clocks. As long as the speedo and revs all match up.
Its probally easier to just get a set of clocks and swap the speedo out so it stays with the car

Thanks Lemski. I was hoping the printed circuit sheet would be the same across some models. From what you say it looks like they could be.

Getting a set of clocks for the G60 is super hard - there are just 2 for sale on eBay.de atm - and one has a similar burnt out track as mine!

Are they definitely not repairable? Is it because of how delicate they are?

Thats wjat I mean, get a set of gti clocks and swap your g60 speedo out to match your engine.
I mean its getting hard to find clocks that all work anyway, I had to take 2 sets to make 1 good set

The 2 - 3 companies I spoke to wouldn't touch MK2 clusters now as spare parts are not available. The earliest models they work on are MK3's.

There was a company in Wales that would take a look a mine if I sent it to them but with no guarantee of repair - ball park figure I got from then was £150.

I'm gonna look out for a set of clocks and match up the circuit on the back to fix mine.

Can you take a picture of the damaged board?

Sure - the burnt out track is the vertical copper wire surrounded by melted blue plastic (in case it wasn't obvious)

I'm sure you could repair the damaged track(s)by bridging them with pieces of fusewire, soldered to a good bit of track. Scrape the insulation off.
The big question is though..........................WTF burnt it out.  Good luck
