Just checked my oil and it is very low, which is worrying as I topped it up about 4 weeks ago.  I havent noticed any puddles of oil under my car and I dont think it is burning oil (theres no smell or smoke from the exhaust).

Hey screwball
I've only ever heard the oil pressure warning buzzer once. That was on my first 16v years back, scared the sh!t out of me when it started (ear piercing even over my sounds!).
Anyway it's usually a bad sign, especially when using oil as you described. It turned out I had blown my head gasket. Have you got any sludge in your expansion bottle?

Toby

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

Yes tobz, I papped myself as well.  It should come with a warning light as well so that at least you know what the feck is going on.

The headgasket has been replaced about 5000 miles ago, so I dont think it is that.  I noticed my oil level was VERY LOW so I nipped out at lunch to get some oil.  At the same time I noticed a little puddle of oil underneath the car, so I think I've got an oil leak.  Would low oil cause the buzzer to go off?

I havent noticed any sludge in the expansion tank.

Where is the oil likely to be leaking from...?

well if there is a lack fo oil then it cant circultate enough especially when redlining, hence loss of pressure as it starts pumpin air!!

10w30 is too thin, goto 15w40

get VAG silver synta

I bought some 15w40 oil from Halfords, didnt want to spend too much while I've got the leak.  They were doing 5L of Castrol GTX for a tenner so I got some of that.  Its funny how the Halfords own brand stuff was more expensive..   ???
