Wheel Spacers
« on: 20 July 2016, 20:17 »
OK so front coilovers fitted, ran out of time to fit rears, has been dropped a fair bit but I am getting knocking when on full lock, what size spacers do I need for MK4 MONTREAL II GTI 16" wheels (I think they are 42 offset)?

You sure it's not the anti-roll bar knocking??  Common issue when you drop the car too far

oh maybe, it was all a bit rushed so not had it up to look at, assumed it was rubbing but it is more of a knocking sound. I'm assuming only way to fix if it is ARB is to go higher, but it doesn't look as low as others I have seen

Check the driveshafts, you'll have witness marks on them as per my old setup...

Bear in mind this was with adjustable drop links as well, the only way I found to fix this was to buy and fit an aftermarket roll bar

How low did you go? whats the max it can be dropped without the issues, my coilovers go to 100mm drop, think at the mo its dropped 50-60mm

Ah ok, 40mm doesnt sound like a lot, def want to go lower than that. So spacers arent the answer then, back to the drawing board.

Yer do get spacers I have 5mm isn't a lot but where mineis sitting low the passenger wheel/tyre rubs in the adjuster ring apparently it's quite common

ok, but will spacers cure my knocking noise? or just stop future rubbing? would like to use spacers eventually to make the wheels sit flush with the arches, but as only the front coilovers are fitted will wait for the rears to go on and see how it looks, just worried the knocking noise is something that might break. only does it on full (or nearly full) lock is fine normal turning i think didnt really take it out too far

Its still most likely arb links.
People take them off, or fit tt ones or adjustable arb links
