Whiteworm.....
« on: 15 July 2016, 17:29 »
Noticed this yesterday whilst giving the car a deep clean....

So popped into the dealers and they have agreed (after a bit of a discussion ) to replace the wheel under warranty

Just 2 years old, 17,000 miles and I run winter wheels  I'm going to keep a close eye on the other 3

Lacquer drawing away from the (relatively) sharp edges of the wheel when painted up, making whiteworm happen around 2 years old. Used to be really common on the MK5 Golf GT 16" "Hockenheim" wheels.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

All diamond cut wheels is prone, they look good but aren't suitable for our roads and climate.

They will all do it. My GTI was showing signs of it before I traded it in last year. I'm only surprised I don't see loads more threads like this on here tbh. In another year or so when the early mk7's are 4 years old maybe...

I have had the last 2 GTI's get white worm and been replaced under warranty. Cars have always been garaged. My mk7 starting to get a few bits being 2 years.

One of the reasons I like pret's on the golf R apart from the looks. Not being diamond cut would be a bonus.

I was lucky with my 2 previous GTIs diamond cuts - didn't get any whiteworm at all. Kerbing them was another matter!  So glad to have Prets now, and nearly 9 months in still unmarked, which is a miracle for me.

I have just been outside to give my car a wash.  While washing the back wheel on drivers side I noticed the beginnings of what could be white worm.  Up until now my wheels have been virtually immaculate... That is until today with the start of white worm.  Thought I would have been one of the lucky ones, but seems that is not the case.  However I will have my Golf R with Pretorias on it soon (in less than a months time), so I will leave the dealer to sort out the White Worm if it gets too bad.  You cannot notice it unless right up close to the wheel.  But I guess it can only get gradually worse as time goes on.

I have had my car since October 2013 so it is coming up to 2.75 years.

I have a small stone chip on one of my Prets, but having just bought a "Floret Silver" touch up kit for the wife's Audi A1 (she has 3 small chips on the front bumper, one on the bottom edge of the bonnet and a tiny stone dent on the same edge where the bonnet is double-skined so won't push out - looking to fill it with paint), i'm going to see what Floret Silver looks like on the Pret chip. It is a bluish Silver very similar to the paint on the Prets, just a smidge bluer than the silver of the Audi's painted wheels.

Do I get the award for the worst white worm to a diamond cut alloy on this forum.

I'm due to hand the car back end of sept but I don't see why I should have to foot the bill for this.

Anyone know if this is covered by warranty.
