Do I get the award for the worst white worm to a diamond cut alloy on this forum.

I'm due to hand the car back end of sept but I don't see why I should have to foot the bill for this.

Anyone know if this is covered by warranty.

That looks pretty bad Misterp, and is the main reason I don't like diamond cut wheels and have swapped mine over to more durable powder coated wheels on my current car.

If your car is under 3 years old, then whiteworm corrosion should be covered under warranty, unless VW adopt a different (harsher) approach post-dieselgate to help keep the cost of warranty claims down! A couple of years ago I had 2 diamond cut wheels replaced under warranty on the Mk6 GTD I had at the time. The garage took photos of them, which presumably they pass to VW to authorise the warranty claim.

If you've got any kerbing or other driver-inflicted damage, then it's likely that VW won't replace them under warranty.

This alloy has some kerbing on it and it's due in to them next Tuesday to be assessed. I'll dig my heels in and demand it considering I've had 4/5 warranty issues since ownership

MisterP: As long as the pattern of the whiteworm looks like it clearly hasn't propagated from the area of kerbing, where that kerbing will have breached the protective clear lacquer, you should be fine. If your dealership cautiously says no without good reason then go to another unrelated dealership.

The root cause can also be careless wheel changing / tyre fitters too. That one certainly looks like it started around the centre cap / bolt holes, which would lead me to believe someone was careless with a wheel brace...

My 2013 GTD was in yesterday for Air-con re-gas, and I mentioned to the service manager about the whiteworm on one rear alloy in the centre... Got a blank new alloy fitted... no questions asked

Well done. That's a result.

I took mine in on Tuesday the 'warranty guy' took some pics to send to VW. I'm still waiting to hear from them they said 24 Hours and I completely forgot with work being manic. Just put a reminder on my phone to call them tomorrow.

Having 2 replaced tomorrow (got in with 1 days warranty left!!!) with the dreaded whiteworm. Also I wouldn't have 19" wheels again with 1" lowered springs, as the tyres really seem prone to sidewall damage going over potholes etc.
Old, but a serial modder!

Went in today about a tiny bit of corrosion on one wheel and getting a wheel replaced this week. Will check them all again before the warranty runs out next year.
