Oil Leak
« on: 29 April 2016, 08:51 »
My mk6 Gti had a bit of an oil leak earlier this year, it's under VW extended warranty so my local dealer had it in. They found a seal in the turbo needed replacing. About 2 months later the thing is leaking oil again so it goes back in. They are now saying it's the mechatronic unit - again covered by warranty. I have questioned how this relates to the engine using and losing a lot of oil, they have re-assured me the mechanics believe this is what is causing the problem but it doesn't make any sense to me. I don't have an issue with them replacing the unit as its not costing me anything but I don't really want the car back with the same problem.

Anyone know how the two could be related?

They're saying that the mechatronics unit leak is causing the excessive engine oil consumption?

Not sure how they could be related seeing as the mechatronics leak will be DSG oil rather than engine oil. How much oil is your engine using and how did you discover both leaks? Was there oil drops on the ground under the car or did you notice it on the engine itself?

Also how much longer is your car covered under the extended warranty?

It's doing about a litre every couple of thousand miles. It's not pouring out by any means, there is no marks on the drive but there is oil all over the front pan/underside protection.

They sent me a video showing the issue, the connector to the mechatronic unit is covered in oil - they said it contaminated the electronics in the unit...I personally think the oil might have come from somewhere else and just ended up here. The DSG service was only done a couple of thousand miles ago, I have read somewhere that sometimes when they overfill the gearbox it the oil forces it's way back out the mechatronic connector so they could be right.

Warranty runs out end June, I might extend it just before selling the car as got a R estate coming around the same time.

Forgot to say they picked up the turbo leak first, I picked up this leak from the smell of burning oil.

dealers are jokers. Engine oil leak has to do with the gearbox

Its two totally different oils. and the gear box is a sealed unit. Yes that also might be leaking if they have over filled it, but that doesnt explain you  leaking regular oil. Have they done the basic checks like boost valve and the PCV valve? that where most of the oil leaks on the 2.0TSi engine.

Do you have any marks under the engine cover or around the air intake near the turbo?
