Mk2 8v....Any benefit to fitting a 2.0 8v

Hi folks

Been offered a Mk3 2.0 8v GTI for peanuts, Wondering what benefits (if any) there would be on fitting the engine in my MK2 8v as they seem to have the same power

Not really. But the bottom end with mk2 head is better.
Mk2 head flows better than the 3. Hence the bhp figures of the 8v not being much different

So no noticeable performance increase? I love the car but getting left for dead by a Land rover disco was the last straw!

If its a remapped td5 they fly.
2 litre bottom end will make it livelier.
Ive got a non gti 8v amd know your pain.
Theres a full 16v setup for sale. That would make it better.
150bhp instead of 112

I'm beginning to wonder if its just down on power, it sounds like the timing might be out. getting pops and bangs on downshifts

They do a little.
In the mk2 section I think theres a guid to getting your digi to run right.
Digi being the injection amd management.
2litre bottom end is still an improvement.

What years the golf?

Itll be digi then.
Im sure a temp sensor makes them run rough.
