Features you'd like to see on the Mk8
« on: 09 April 2016, 09:26 »
I'll kick this off.

Unique front seats. Ones with moulded headrests and side bolsters would be nice.
Ability to spec 4Motion. Give the customer choice.
More choice in unique colours for the performance Golfs. To enhance its specialness.
Head up display (almost certain this will be an option on Mk8).
Radar sensor integrated into grill more discreetly.

Let's hope VW take note

4motion would be great. Audi offer Quattro on nearly everything so it's not an impossibility.

And so VAG want you to have that by buying an Audi, not a VW or a SEAT or a Skoda.

For me:

1) The same colour range as they offer in Germany - nothing special, just the same.

2) Half leather option for the seating. I don't like sitting on leather, but leather trim would be nice.

3) 20 speed DSG box so that DSG has a lower pollution figure than manual

4) Dynamic LED lights (almost certain to happen)

5) ECM package to jam gatsos and machine guns behind the headlights?
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Id love the option Opel have with two coats of paint, HUD, 4 Motion, but I'd be just as happy if they put Keyless and Alarm option back on the 3 door models!
2016 R!
2016 GTI PP Ordered and cancelled
2015 3DR GTD
2011 3DR GTD

Great thread.

I agree with all your wish list.
Seats more like the mk5 GTI would be better than the mk7 ones, more prominent bolsters and a proper moulded in headrest.
Some much more appealing and less dowdy colours would be great.
Head up display would be nice, the fully digital dashes worry me slightly as the whole thing would go blank if we had problems like some of the MIB II people seem to be getting with blank screens.
And yes, that radar is pretty ugly and I'm sure there are more aesthetic ways of integrating it without it costing a bomb at production stage.

I'll echo the 4wd bi-turbo wish but a 20 speed DSG would be the bottom of my wish list as the thing would just be swapping cogs and stuttering like a cartoon character. It'd spend more time swapping cogs than it would actually in a gear!

I'll add: some nicer alloys (for the GTI model as standard) than the swastika monzas of the mk7.

Remove self parking as if you can't park yourself you shouldn't be driving.

Remove anything that mirrors your phone on the screen so that you concentrate on driving not the phone.

Most things are just gimmicks to get buyers to fork out that little bit more. I would prefer them to sort out more power, better handling from stock.

The only thing I'll add to that is the self parking has a really useful side - getting out of ridiculously tight spaces when someone has blocked you in.
I had it on my GTI and couldn't have it on an R and I do miss it. Maybe only twice a year do I miss it but on those occasions it earns its value considering how cheap it was.
Having said that according to Lee's 2017 MY changes they've hiked the price of it up.
