Looks like my R is indefinitely delayed. Back to the drawing board as my GtD goes back to VWFS on 22/09. Need to find an alternative quickly.

Why indefinitely delayed? My changeover still a few weeks yet start of November but heard nothing with regards delays,

Think my GTD would be extended in that situation. (company lease)

Indefinitely was the words used by VW Customer Service. Prob is they will not have a proper update until atleast 2 weeks and it's 6 weeks from build to delivery taking me to atleast end of Nov.

How long ago did you order the R?

Seems like I will likely be ok but if had to wait and they just extended the GTD it be fine with me, hardly suffering driving the GTD - Is it not possible for you to just continue with the GTD until order fulfilled?  as no way you can order anything new in ten days and likely have to wait 6 weeks anyway at best

OP

I'm going over to a BMW M140i Auto 5 door. Always hankered after that big 3 litre straight six. It. Is. Insane

Negotiated an incredible discount on it. Taking November delivery.

I'll be really sad to see the GTI go, the car is incredible and still make me smile every time I drive it. So well sorted. Would have gone for an R but I just fancy a change from Volkswagen. For a now anyways...........

Maybe come back when the Mk8 R comes along. Ooh ooh that'd be nice

I had an M135i and it was the most bonkers little thug i've ever driven. It was quite a machine.
What colour have you gone for?.I had Estoril Blue. But the new (for the M140i) Melbourne Red looks really nice.
Just keep a keen eye on that tiny rear window for the Hawaii-Five-O on your tail. You get up to silly speeds without even trying.
Good choice though.Very good choice.

Ha ha funny. I will have to keep a very, very keen eye on the fuzz. Took it on a test drive. I could not believe how fast the thing was. Booted it on the motorway at 60 mph. Looked at speedo and it was nudging 100 in the blink of an eye. My test driving companion got a little sweaty at this point. Lol

I've gone for sleeper glacier silver. Innocuous and clean shaven.

Melbourne red did look nice but wasn't completely convinced tbh. Same with Valencia orange. Bit look at me - for me.

Mjh VW won't allow me to keep the gtd as the new r on lease isn't funded by VWFS. So I either buy or hand back they come to collect on 22/09. My order was made in July with an estimated 12 week for delivery. On the online tracker I had a confirmed build date of 22/08. Called yday and they advised its not happening in the short term.

The lease company said that there is nothing they can do but offer me an alternative that they have in stock. They have offered an m240 for 303pcm with 9 months up front.

But my wife is due mid Dec and I can't be bothered with the inconvenience of lugging a car seat in to a 3 door.

I have in the short term (for hospital appointments etc) rented a 5 door polo for 55 for 7 days I will see if I can extend week on week.

The M135i has gone and I collected my 440i Gran Coupe yesterday.

I'm a absolutely loving this car and really pleased with the addition of the m performance carbon rear spoiler and diffuser.

Another couple of pics.

That 4 series looks stunning and i really think BMW are missing a trick not doing a M4 variant as way nicer than the coupe and that engine is sublime

I've just been sorting the carbon bits from mine which turns up in a few weeks
