I can say the gtechniq fabric protection for seats works s treat. My late father in law spilt his coffee on the back seats and it sat on the top coating until wiped off.

I bought my Golf R outright with cash so have no real idea of PCP leasing and how to get the best out of it.  I am sure the others on this forum will help you though.

Bought mine outright too, for about £28k including Prets, Lapiz paint and the 5 year warranty. Hoping to sell it for at least £17.5k 3 years old, with the private buyer having the reassurance of 2 years warranty.

Although you can't guarantee it, i'd normally* expect at least a grand "equity" over and above your agreed GFV figure towards my next VW if PCPing - that's out of the window if you don't get another VW as any other marque dealership is almost certainly not going to give you as good a p/x price. So Equity has to be worth around £30pm in a lease vs PCP comparison. The general rule is lease if you're not hitting the options list and PCP if you are, as you'll be stumping up the full cost of those extras over 24 months, £2k extras will end up adding £83pm on a lease, or about £44pm on a 36 month PCP.

*I doubt if any R owner with the early sky-high GFV figures of £18k+ at 3 years will see any equity if 3 year old Rs end up retailing at £20-21k.

Thanks MH for the input. I'm going to have a think over the weekend and order on Monday/Tuesday.

Lease has the benefit of fully maintained and taxed throughout the term so includes at least one set of tyres and service.

MisterP: At 6k miles PA, i'd take the cost of tyres out of the equation - on that 2 year lease, the fronts might not even be worn down at the end, and would only need a single long life service. If you keep the car 3 or 4 years you might not need another set of tyres if you rotate fronts to backs for a total of 24k miles done in 4 years.

Maintenance/tyres/tax (lease) vs PCP comes down to 2 years of your PCP costing you 1 tax disc (in addition to the one that comes with the car) at £185 and £287 cost of a 2 year service pack - That's £20pm over 2 years that the first 2 years of PCP costs vs a 24 month lease.

Is there much in the monthlies between a 3 year PCP and 4 years? Usually there isn't because you get a much better GFV on 3 years. 4 years is a long commitment, and year 4 will be reliant on a goodwill gesture to warrant anything that fails as well as the hassle of an MOT. If you went 3 years and rotated your tyres, you almost certainly wouldn't burn through a set having done 18k miles.

My GTD lease ends late October and will be extremely sad to see it go, it's an excellent all rounder and a "sweet looking ride" (as my neighbours 5yr old granddaughter told me recently!).

But as much as I like it I fancy a change, so have ordered a Passat GT DSG estate in pure white with black/moonrock interior.

Another 2yr personal lease from the excellent chaps at Parkway and as it will be a 2017 model it will have the pano roof and active info display as std.

Quite excited, in a boring pipe and slippers kind of way

Thanks MH.

I'm more likely to do between 8k-10k pa. it's why I factored them in but I see your point. I'm going to ask the question tomorrow about 3 and 4 years tomorrow. Especially if I am going to drop the leathers would reduce my monthlies further. Let's see my concern is having any equity left especially after everything that has gone on with GFV.

Well, I embarrassingly discovered that the Passat is just a touch too long for our garage, so the chaps at Parkway kindly swapped my into a Golf R Estate... for less money too! Arriving end of October.

Not a bad cock-up all round then

Result!!
Can't say I'm a fan of the R estate but it's certainly an improvement over the Passat
What colour R did you go for ?
