In response to the original question I will be buying....................another MK7, placed order today for another R
This will be my 3rd MK7 in 18 months, I really should try something else but there's honestly really nothing else I'd like

In 2 years time will be looking for the same again, or maybe an end of line R or a MK8.  Would possibly consider an M2 for the performance but probably couldn't live with the nasty driver image. cos I'm not.

I love how all BMW drivers and all Audi drivers get labelled as a bunch of knobs. It's all a load of sh!t imo. I don't see a guy in a BMW and think that he's a twit, I tend to think that the guy/girl must be doing alright for themselves. I still see it as a relatively high end vehicle even if loads of them are used as rep mobiles. I come across plenty of other idiots driving other makes including VW owners

Have to admit I have now met a few future M2 owners and on the whole a great bunch who are petrol heads

Just go on the R forum and there are plenty on there who fit the bill, ironically the R is the only car I have ever owned that i truly could not think of anything worse than going to a meet

if you want a M2 i'd put your deposit down now for end of 17

Sorry they are great cars but that's the way it is. I've lost count of the times a 116D/118D/120D/320D/420D etc etc see the badge on my car and hey presto! I get tailgated, forced into driving faster than I should be going etc etc.  There is some kind of superiority thing going on. Nasty.

You do have a strong point.
There's something about those models that attract tosspot owners. Not all of them but a hell of a lot of them. Years ago it was Astra drivers that were of the same mentality but their offspring all seem to have developed an appetite for the aforementioned BMW models.
The bigger engined BMW models seem to attract a better clientele but you can guarantee if you pull up at a set of lights in a 30 or 40 limit with nothing behind you a 320 or 118 will pull up and insist on going in the outside lane. There's something in the owners mentality that they can't just slot in behind you in the knowledge that you're driving a sporty VW so you're not likely to be going to dawdle at 10mph below the limit thus hindering their self important progress.
And some owners of MK5 Golf GTIs seem to have a dreadful attitude and dangerous driving style too.
I find that a real shame as it's going to be a classic model and unfortunately a lot of them will end up buggered by nutter owners or crashed.
Mk5 GTI owners seem to fall into two categories: either very very good drivers or the polar opposite with nothing much in between. Or at least local to me they're like that.
I have a feeling mk7 Rs are going to be much like mk5 GTIs. Either thrashed or cherished.

^^ Definitely an interesting one. Last night a chap in a Red MK7 R pulled up directly behind me at some traffic lights, and when I set off he was so close to my bumper I couldn't see his lights. He was desperate for me to indulge him in showing how much fast his car is than my standard GTI. I had my 9 month old baby in the car so I ended up pulling over and slowing down until he got bored and sodded off, but it really wound me up, it was so dangerous. I've found a lot of quick Golf drivers are just as bad. I don't find BMW drivers too bad, even though my Wife is one and she's a terrible driver!

All boils down to a big (or not as the case may be) willy waving exercise. (Sorry to the lovely ladies amongst us!)

Maybe years ago it was nearly acceptable to stereotype drivers and folk could get away with calling Audi drivers cocks or asking BMW drivers if they bought the indicator option.
That has long gone and you can't look at a car and know what the driver will be like.
The worst experiences I've had has been with Golf drivers similar to JBirchy but I think its been another Golf just trying to show what he can do compared to a lower Golf.
Or maybe its just stuck in my mind because its been a Golf.

Some of the worst drivers I've come across on the roads have been Golf drivers.  Which is something given how many c0cks there are on the roads!  They were in Mk 4's (clearly chipped) and driving so dangerously it was unreal. I don't think the stereotypes really exist anymore, it just seems there are far more pr!cks on the road full stop, regardless of badge.

I know its childish but the simplest way to stop a tailgater is to slow right down (I don't mean brake test, just lift off the accelerator) - then drop it into 2nd/3rd and nail it!  Rinse and repeat until they give up.  Which they will as there's only so many times these douchebags will want to be mugged off as they won't be able to keep up!  Simples
