Interesting you've been quoted 6 months, I only only placed my order on 25/03/16 and was told 16 weeks.

Dealer allocation?

Not entirely sure, it's still awaiting a scheduled build week, I'm hoping it gets delayed a little so it falls under a MY17 build ;)

The Golf R will be a factory order, as it's such a high spec and has Oryx White so harder to find a dealer allocation. This may be why it's 6 month wait as well, as it was last time I ordered my GTI PP.  If I remember right there were others ordering GTi's after me and getting many months before.   I am also paying cash as a lump sum for the Golf R.  I tried so hard to get closer to Drive the Deal price butiIt got to a point where I tried to to get them to round down to the nearest thousand from £X265 pounds and after a lot of stubborness on my part I got them to meet me halfway.  This was after £3K off.  Then for the cheek of it I asked for a free boot liner tray on top before I would sign the dotted line just to make him sweat a bit more.  This was just for my amusement as I already have a perfectly fine boot liner tray but a spare would be OK. Apologies to any dealers on this forum.

I know I could get better through Finance and PCP etc,. But I have always saved the money and paid cash for cars, it's just my thing.

However I finally managed to get a Golf R after many years of wishing I  could have one.  My 3 years on the GTI is up in October so No 3yr Service or MOT to worry about either.  I will keep the Golf R longer and probably wait until the MK8 Golf R is released at the least before I think about trading it in.

I also asked the salesman about the Clubsport he was not too keen on it.  Probably because he was selling me a Golf R at the time. I think it will be a great car as my GTI is awesome, but I just feel it could be a bit cheaper than the Golf R.  the price is too close for what you get.  However to all of you who have ordered a Clubsport I am sure it will be a great drive and enjoy every moment of owning it. It was a toss up for me between a Clubsport and Golf R until I saw the price was as close as it was between the two

Oh dear God, what have I done!  Was not planning on buying a car today, but I got £3K off list price on an Oryx White 5 Dr Golf R with practically all options and projected trade in price for my Gti Pp of £16K.  I spent hours getting every last penny out of the dealer before signing the dotted line.  i know I could get more out of drive the deal, but this much out of a local dealer is not bad.

I now have a Golf R,  5 Dr, in Oryx White with the following on order:

DCC
Tech Pack
Winter Pack
Rear View Camera
Carbon Mirror Caps
19" Pretoria Wheels
Climate Windscreen
Advanced Telephone Connection
App Connect
Service Plan
4yr Warranty Extension

Oh and another free boot liner tray

Estimated build time is 6mths, September maybe?

Fantastic spec but very brave man. I just can't see the R holding their values given the flood of leased cars that will be coming on to the market soon.

I've got my GTD until December 2017 (company car) the replacement will not be a Golf.

The g/f has ordered a new A4 Avant 190 TDI S-Line... when you've been in one of those you realise that the Golf is pretty low rent... well equipped but low rent. I could have an A4 on the car scheme... but depending on what the government does I might have to go for a Merc C350e Estate... because the BIK is currently 7% (the g/f's co. car policy does not allow them to have plug-in hybrids :/)...

I'll still have the V8 Supercharged monster in the garage...

I got myself a M135i. Cant say i have any regrets at all. Sound is addictive and its not really a fair comparison from the GTI to the M135i but it just puts a huge smile on my little face and makes me want to drive it. I also get an average of 30mpg out of it at the moment and can squeeze 40 out of it on a run so i haven't really lost anything in that sense. the other thing which is addictive is full throttle from a standing start and theres not really any wheel slip, the weight just drops onto the back wheels and they dig right into the tarmac, must be like what its like having 4WD, its so much easier to be confident.

Got this one till 2020 now though unless i get out of it after 3 years or so... ill be 25 then so I've no idea what will be going on in my life.

@ CraigW: There aren't going to be any leasers with that sort of spec!

Indeed the R won't be a car remembered for its fantastic resale value but it's popular and got a similar image to the mk5 GTI in its day and that never had any resale value issues.
VW didn't supply all the leases in one hit, they had long wait times and were dribbled out into the market initially. The only reason they seem so common is because people buy them instead of GTIs now. You used to see loads of mk2 GTIs everywhere too back in their day and they always had excellent resale value, same for VR6's, MK5 GTI's etc.
The only reason the mk6 R held its value well is because nobody much bought them.

The R will stay a popular model and will be a popular second hand car once new stocks slow then dry up - it's been a huge hit with road testers and is a very well respected performance car.
I still reckon long term it'll have better than average depreciation but the days of VW's having rock solid residuals are probably over with all the heavy discounting going on as VW go for volume sales. Just look at BMW now.
