We'll most likely go for the middle diesel, 190hp i think? The 150 would probably be sufficient but a little more shove never gets old! We don't do a vast amount of miles anyway but i doubt a petrol would hold it's value very well? Methinks an older mk may well end up as it's stablemate for me to lavish with love! Perhaps an un molested mk2 big bumper or a genuine tidy mk5?
The 190 will be the sweet spot in the range I'd think, both for desirability new and used.
A petrol just won't cut the mustard in something with the aerodynamics of a house so unless there's a massive shift in buying habits in the UK I'd think they'd sell hardly any petrols. The torque delivery and better fuel economy has got to favour Diesels in cars like this for 99% of buyers surely?
I personally love the idea of the 240 Diesel but I think the 190 with a tuning box would be a pretty rapid vehicle for when the mood took you and pretty good on fuel the rest of the time when you can just waft on the torque.
As for a stablemate, either of those two would be nice, finding a decent one might be a harder task!
Thanks for the info evo.
I went to Geneva a few weeks ago to specifically to see the new Tiguan and it is a quality piece of kit. It has some looks of a Q5 IMO.
The ride quality/handling on my current R-Line isn't anywhere near such as a mk7 GTD but hopefully that's been sorted with the body lowering. From looking at the brochures from other countries, it seems that the bi turbo won't be available at launch and the (IIRC) GTE will be released later in the year.
It's a shame that the cars won't be available 'in the flesh' until late May to test drive but what's another few months of waiting in the great scheme of things!
Welcome John.
A bit strange that your first post is Tiguan related on a GTI forum, I'll take it that it just came up on a google search or do you have a GTI history? I admire your dedication to duty going all the way to Geneva to view the car, personally I'd have just waited until my local dealer had one in!
As for the 999, is that job related or do you just drive like you're on blues and two's all the time?!!

A friend of mine has a 999 sign in which people always assumed was to do with his job, however although his dad is a retired policeman the 999 actually comes from a motorbike he used to own, I think it was a Ducati or something.
