We'll most likely go for the middle diesel, 190hp i think? The 150 would probably be sufficient but a little more shove never gets old! We don't do a vast amount of miles anyway but i doubt a petrol would hold it's value very well? Methinks an older mk may well end up as it's stablemate for me to lavish with love! Perhaps an un molested mk2 big bumper or a genuine tidy mk5?

I think a Mk5 will just feel like an old(er) car these days, whereas a Mk2 has the charms of a car from an era gone by, so it's compromises are much easier to accept.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The 190 will be the sweet spot in the range I'd think, both for desirability new and used.
A petrol just won't cut the mustard in something with the aerodynamics of a house so unless there's a massive shift in buying habits in the UK I'd think they'd sell hardly any petrols. The torque delivery and better fuel economy has got to favour Diesels in cars like this for 99% of buyers surely?
I personally love the idea of the 240 Diesel but I think the 190 with a tuning box would be a pretty rapid vehicle for when the mood took you and pretty good on fuel the rest of the time when you can just waft on the torque.

As for a stablemate, either of those two would be nice, finding a decent one might be a harder task!

Thanks for the info evo.

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago to specifically to see the new Tiguan and it is a quality piece of kit. It has some looks of a Q5 IMO.

The ride quality/handling on my current R-Line isn't anywhere near such as a mk7 GTD but hopefully that's been sorted with the body lowering. From looking at the brochures from other countries, it seems that the bi turbo won't be available at launch and the (IIRC) GTE will be released later in the year.

It's a shame that the cars won't be available 'in the flesh' until late May to test drive but what's another few months of waiting in the great scheme of things!
Welcome John.
A bit strange that your first post is Tiguan related on a GTI forum, I'll take it that it just came up on a google search or do you have a GTI history? I admire your dedication to duty going all the way to Geneva to view the car, personally I'd have just waited until my local dealer had one in!
As for the 999, is that job related or do you just drive like you're on blues and two's all the time?!!
A friend of mine has a 999 sign in which people always assumed was to do with his job, however although his dad is a retired policeman the 999 actually comes from a motorbike he used to own, I think it was a Ducati or something.

I like the idea of the 240 BiTDI. Wouldn't buy it in the Passat as it's a little 'old man' for me but a Tiguan would be cool. A GTD 4Motion with that engine better still!

I have driven a Passat with that engine in it and I thought it was extremely good. If I was to get the new Tiguan it would be with that engine for sure.

Personally I don't think that the 240PS engine is necessary in a car like this. You sit up higher, have a much better viewpoint and can happily waft along in a relaxed manor. This chassis dynamics of a taller car don't allow it to corner like a hatch or saloon car, unless it's uncomfortably firm, so you end up pointing and squirting when trying to make progress.

It's internal space and towing capabilities that interest me, more that outright pace.

Exactly

When eventually choose it will be based on what value most which if performance it would be GTI/R or for the sitting up higher SUV experience and so where performance is not the key factor just decent speed torque and economy and agree with the statement that the mid range diesel unit will be more than sufficient in ticking them boxes and be 98% of the sales in the UK.

The style and quality being so aligned to MK7 Golf is why think this model is going to be so popular it's not a huge leap that maybe was before in style and particularly in the R Line suit

I drive my sister in laws X6 a lot and it has nearly 400bhp tuned and it is a fantastic car to drive. If they make the Tiguan handle well enough then I don't see any negative in having that sort of power in a car of its size. The X6 drives, handles and covers ground with ease.

Thanks for the welcome. mcmaddy is also on the Tiguan forum and posted a link here.
I've previously had a mk5 diesel GT Golf but then moved on to other cars within the VAG range - a couple of Octavia VRS's and now the Tiguan. The Geneva visit was my second as I also went last year to look at the Focus RS and Mustang.

Neither of those really hit the nail on the head so 12 months on and another visit was needed to inspect the Tiguan!

Anyway, it's mid way through the 24th and still no change to the VW website.

Absolutely no surprise there. VW UK are shocking at keeping their promises. I keep checking too. I think it will be the 5th April (or a little earlier) before we see the UK website update with the new Tiguan spec and prices.

Imagine ordering the current Tiguan today. Gutted. Although you may not be able to order one through the proper channels (i.e. dealer computer).
