Anyone think next year's car tax changes will persuade people to keep their car longer, considering some models hefty first year fee (the likes of the R will have a £500 initial fee)?

Then everything from a Citroen C1 with a sewing machine under the bonnet and upwards will pay a flat £140 a year.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

You can get Car Net on the new R's Craig so that renders the nav upgrade as 'not worth the money' and Keyless and heated seats are far from necessary unless you have a regular female driver.
Just about the only people I know who love heated seats (in my non cyber-life) are women who seem to go mad for them. I had them on one of my mk6's with leather (dealer registered car so not ordered new) and used them once. Hardly a necessity and that's coming from someone who gets in their car around 4am most mornings having had to remove a layer of ice.
As for keyless, no comment! But I'm sure it wouldn't add masses to a lease price.

I agree on the heated seats my mate  swears by them he's got them on his gte and had them in his mk4 they do nowt for me and I'm bout the same 4am starts.

All the early GTI's had silver badges. After about 12 months they changed it to red for the PP. The red badges are easy enough to get hold of if you want one on a non PP GTI.

Yeah thanks I did look into it after I'd read bout the changes with the badging I got mine sorted it's non pp but coming with the red badging on possibly not to everyone's taste but to be honest if you've got a gti then why not show what it is...

I have one of the early GTI's which came with the silver badges even though it's got the PP. I could have swapped for red badges but I actually prefer the silver ones, to me they just look a bit more classy than the red

Just heard from the lease company I was speaking to regarding the so called great offer on the R and it turns out to be lousy  . I was looking at 2 year deal 10k miles per annum. The offer I got was 9+23 at £286 per month for 5k miles. Mmmm no thanks.

Dissapointed so will keep looking

Just a quick update; VW have increased their contribution on GTI's from £1250 to £2000.  You have to take their PCP finance to get this, and they've increased the APR on that to 5.3%.
Good news for me; I'm picking up the car on Monday and the above change makes it £750 less than I was expecting, huzzah!

My deal in summary: GTI manual PP, 5 door, Reflex Silver with DCC, Dynaudio and professional nav (i.e. Tech Pack), reversing camera = £25,957.

Bubba.
mk7 GTI now sold.  Gone but not forgotten.

Thanks for the info! Will they honour that deal even after you've placed your order? I'm expecting mine sometime in June and ordered at the beginning of April.
