Ipod Question
« on: 21 March 2016, 08:32 »
Hi all,
I'm a long time lurker. I picked my GTI PP up in march and absolutely love the car, fun,  fast and fairly frugal, whats not to love?

I have a question regarding the usb ipod connection:

I have been leaving my ipod connected whilst out of the car and just happened to notice whilst cleaning the interior that the ipod is still powered whilst the car is turned off. Should i be disconnecting the usb when i leave the car to avoid the battery being drained or is it alright to leave?

Cheers.

thanks for the reply, to be fair i haven't had any issues so far
Just not sure i like the idea of the iPod being constantly powered from a fire prevention prospective, it would be just my luck to get up in the morning and find my pride and joy a burned out shell on the drive.....

Let's hope not!   I've kept my ipod connected in this car for 6 months and for 3 years in previous GTI and never returned to a blob of molten metal and rubber.

On my CC when I unlock/open the door I can hear the iPhone I use for some of my music start charging. I'm assuming the Mk7 Golf is the same. The ignition doesn't need to be on. I think it stops the power to it after 30 minutes.

Mine is the old system with an RNS510

Another question on a similar note. I leave an old Ipod connected constantly, it hasn't burned in over 4 months of ownership yet. Its an old pre wifi IPOD Classic with 80GB Hard drive so I can store everything in one place. Has anyone else noticed that if you navigate to an artist via the head unit and touch screen and then leave the car when you return the head unit plays the last played song but if you start to navigate through the music it defaults back to the main iPod menu (the Playlist - Artist - Albums one). In other words it forgets which artist you where at and you have to re navigate through to them again to select a different album. Its a bit annoying but wondered if it was the age of the IPod rather than the MIBII unit being the issue?

If you're worried, can you not just stick everything on an SD card and play your music from there?

Much the best way ^^. However, I always left an iPod plugged in to my TT with no issues. Guessing the power thing was the same. IIRC it does cut the power after a set time. SD card does the job really weel, though, so, if you're concerned, that's the way to go.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the help and input!
I might have a look at putting all my tunes on an SD card and just running that.

Thanks all!
