Every time I see one of these dash cam threads I keep thinking "I must get one ASAP" then see so many different recommendations it just confuses me so I never get round to it.
I do like the idea of the camera that can be recharged at home and just mounted in the car using battery back up so it can be used in several vehicles.

I was the exact same Andy. I would search and read reviews till I was blue in the face and then come full circle and not buy one until the next thread.
That was until my Mrs bought me this one for Christmas from Argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4557690.htm
It  meant that if it broke within the first year it would be no hassle taking it back.
I only took it back and bought something else as it was bought at full price and I didn't think it was worth that.
I would get one at the half price though as that is probably worth it.
Nice one Steve! Thanks for that. Perfect.
That's a good price and, as you say, a pretty hassle free way to purchase and return if anything goes wrong.
Subject to me having any money left at all once I eventually get car insurance sorted for my son who has just passed his driving test yesterday I'll get two of those.

Trying to get an insurance policy for a 17 year old to come on my insurance for an elderly GTI is proving more of a head scratcher than a dash cam thread right now!
My older son was 18 when he passed his test and that seems to be an age where they'll more readily quote, he was straight on there for well under a grand.

Has anyone tried using a go pro as a dashcam? I really need to get a dashcam but some of the comments are putting me off the dedicated ones.

With the go pro I could use it in or out of the car. Seen a few videos on YouTube and the quality is good.

Don't judge a dash cam by YouTube footage as its compressed. Techmoan.com has some excellent reviews of quite a few cameras.

I 've been using my GoPro H3B as a dashcam for more than 4 years now, with no problems at all. The best way is to use it in the 'Frame' casing which keeps it cool.

Compared to the huge variety of dashcams on the market now, the GP option is quite expensive though.

If you're interested have a look at some footage on the tube...

Is there anyone from the north Hampshire area that can recommend someone to hardwire a dash cam?? Halfords offer the service quite cheap (£30) but they don't do the dash cam I want, I'm going to get a blackvue

Cheap or not, don't ever let Halfords near your car. Ever.

I hard wired a Blackvue in my Mk5 which I have since refitted in my Mk7. Its very straight forward. Here is a guide I did on the Mk5 on the 'other' forum.

Edit: Forgot the link!

Fair play, I'll heed that warning as I did ask myself is it worth the risk letting them near it
