Temperature warning light on start up
« on: 19 February 2016, 09:47 »
Hi guys,

A few times this winter when I start my gti up in the morning the temperature warning light come on and there is an audible beep!

Seems to only happen when it's below freezing. I have checked the coolant level (which is fine) and made sure the cap is tightened correctly.

If I re-start the car the light goes out. When I continuing to drive the temperature reaches the normal level and there are no further issues.

I am guessing this is a sensor issue? Has anyone had this? I have a diagnostics dongle and have checked for errors but none come up.

Very queer...

It does it on my golf, I think it's when the temp is 4 degrees or below, just to let you know that road and weather conditions may be slippy.

I have had it only come on recently, but I think that is because the guy with VCDS/Vagcom turned on this temp for me..!

On my car everytine the outside temperature drops below 4 degrees it gives a beep. Just a warning that the roads might be icy, nothing more.

Mine gives a beep below 4 degrees and the temp in the MFD flashes for a few seconds.

Which temperature warning light are you talking about?

Red coolant temperature light or the snow flake symbol?

If you have VCDS then check measuring blocks and see if outside temperature, all coolant temperatures etc are all plausible.

It's the red light that comes on and stays on (only when freezing or below).

Don't have VCDS unfortunately but have checked with my dongle/app. No errors showing..
