haldex oil
« on: 17 February 2016, 12:48 »
My service techs are having a bit of trouble finding out the type of oil to be used in the Haldex unit on my 4MOTION.

The VW people over here sell cars, not parts and are less than helpful in situations like this!

Anyone know the answer?

Don't sound so surprised. My 4motion is one of only two in the entire country, so it's not really surprising that no one knows how to service them.

Audi owners rarely service their cars, so they aren't much help either.

But, thanks for the links anyway.

It was more a garage not knowing how to find out the right oil. Coming in episode 2, how do we remove those things holding the wheels on...

Just to give you something else to laugh about...spoke with a number of Audi owners today (the ones who have the same Haldex system)...the majority of them say they have never bothered to have it serviced because it wasn't causing any problems! But...two of them stated that they fill theirs with LSD oil...because the correct stuff is NOT available in this country. That last part seems to be correct...the tecs in my garage had to order it direct from Germany and it will be here at the end of next week.

You guys are lucky to live in a cotton wool world...not everyone is so lucky!!

That equates to about 8 years of driving for me, but it was interesting to learn that the Audi drivers don't service theirs unless it leaks!

Finally got her back yesterday afternoon....service (and other jobs) all done. They had to import the Haldex kit, cap, filter, oil etc, from VW Gemany, as it's not a stock item here...and it is not a cheap thing to have done!
Probably explains why the Audi crew don't bother.

The 'owning a rare car' saga goes on...spent all day trying to source a set of second hand rims for mine (steel or alloy), with no luck. Plenty of choice for almost every type and brand of car...VW, no way!!!

Glad I didn't buy the tires first.
