Golf MK4 1.4 Won't Start (EPC LIGHT)

Hi, I'm new to this.. I have a golf mk4 1.4 51 plate.
The car was sitting for a while had a new gearbox put in, the battery died so I brought a new one it wouldn't start it was just turning over, I checked the coil pack to see if it was sparking, I changed the fuel pump relay still didn't start so I changed the fuel pump it was trying to start so I put jump lead on and it started! After a few days I was driving it and the EPC light came on went off then came back on with the oil light flashing but then the oil light turnt off, then after a mile or so it just lost power and died the car does have a small hole in the exhaust but I was planning on changing that in a few days, after it died it was back to square one and it's just turning over and not even trying to start... I'm puzzled

Check fault codes before changing parts..... check them now.

there is usually 1 on the gearbox that's why I ask as I had a similar issue with a car many years ago and this was the cause  :smiley:

Okay thanks I'll have a look into that.. It could be as it had a gearbox put in a while ago keep you posted!! :)
