I was all up for getting a clubsport a while ago, but the price is so close to an R albeit with a detuned version of the same engine and no 4WD, what exactly are you getting to warrant the price apart from the limited edition factor.  If any of the options such as bucket seats, wheels with sports tyres or other options were standard, then it may be a more attractive purchase.  But if I had bought a clubsport, I suspect I would have a niggling feeling I should have bought an R for only a couple hundred more. I am not dead against the clubsport as it looks like a great car, it's more the price V's standard options and Golf R price that stops me getting one.

Do what I did, order yourself a discounted Golf R with a big list of options, save around £5-6k and enjoy the top Golf model ;)

This is exactly what I am thinking I will do for my next car.  It's like you read my mind.

I am possibly going to order an R on a 2 year lease, just waiting on prices coming through.

I think VW have lost the plot a little, with the 35/6R there was a decent price difference

Will be interesting to see if they shift 1,000 and what happens on the discount front when they don't

The option cost for the Pilot Sport 2s and 19s made me think it was April 1st

Stunning car, rare car but expensive car

I much prefer the look of the clubsport to the R. It's definitely more aggressive which is good in my eyes but and its a big but ... 300hp on tap all the time and 4wd for only £250 more than the clubsport is crazy

What is the fascination with 4WD? Does anybody on this forum drive their cars (in the wet) so hard the rely on 4WD?  I am in the NE Scotland and we can get plenty of snow but wouldn't consider a 4WD car (thats what my wife's S3 is for ;-) )

A well balanced 2WD car is far more rewarding and less likely to get you into trouble ie think the car is uncrashable!

Correct, Volkswagen will sell them all as the GTI brand has a cult following regardless of price.
The GTI PP is a good package too, having owned one, for me the GTI CS isn't special/unique enough after all it's just a tarted up GTI PP.
For some, the GTI PP with discounts, becomes a very appealing buy instead of the GTI CS.
