If you believe the post here http://jalopnik.com/volkswagen-may-reveal-this-humble-golf-with-audi-s-high-1747707847 , this is a leaked promo video intended for VW at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January 2016

Combination shown of a gesture controlled screen and TFT dash panel - looks quite slick

Being a bit of a Luddite, my preference will always be proper gauges, I really like the sweep when the ignition is switched on. Having said that, I do get the benefit of the big display right in front of the driver but then surely you don't need the big centre console display? One or the other? Cars in general are just too complex these days.

Different cars have had similar/older tech, but I guess it's the combination of these type of technologies at a Golf price point thats a key USP

Even the new BMW 7-Series has only just started offering gesture control.

For me, I quite like the idea of gesture control - having a shaky hand from Parkinson's means that using the touchscreen (especially on the move) isn't as easy as it ought to be

Lets hope that VW manage to get rid of the bugs that plague the MIB 2 system before they roll this out. Dont fancy my virtual speedo screen going blank the way my infotainment system frequently does.

Gesture control eh? If I stick two fingers up at a pedestrian, does it blast the horn?

My thoughts too. Too many buttons put me off the MK7 GTI from an initial drive. Like most things I suppose you get used to changes but yet to be convinced to put my money into one.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
