touran 2.0 tdi sport gearbox/clutch

hey

I have an issue with my touran, I'm struggling to find 1st 2nd and reverse. not every time its doing this but when it does I have to select other gears before I can continue with setting off. any ideas please

Could be clutch related, worst case DMFW.

Sounds more like an input shaft bearing issue to me, really common on the 6 spd boxes. There are 2 options to repair, first involves fitting a shim from the outside which we've had limited success with. The more permanent solution involves removing the gearbox and replacing the failed parts which is obviously going to be more expensive.

So if it's the bearing issue would it be cheaper to fit a new box?

Just been looking online about this bearing and most people say that they have a whirring noise. I have no noises just annoyance at traffic lights and junctions
