Please excuse me if this is the wrong place for asking for help...
The car in question is - Golf MK6 2.0 TDI CBEA 2009
I am relatively new to this forum and I don't normally do repairs or replacement to my car but after getting a quote from VW for changing my cam belt I and a very experienced good friend of mine decided to do it ourselves. My friend has over 18 years experience in stripping and rebuilding engines so I knew we would be ok in doing this.
I purchased the Hynes manual explaining all the steps and we started to follows this. The problem we have is after changing the belt, water pump, fuel filter, oil filter, oil etc is the car won't start. It will turn over but not firing.
At first there was a starvation of fuel from the HPFP to the engine which after removing the pipes to the engine and using vcds to force both fuel pumps on we started to get fuel. But this didn't fix the problem.
I then started to search the net and one thing I've found, which the Hynes manual didn't mention, was that the camshaft 'crown' needed to be at the top with the crankshaft at TDC and not at the bottom which ours was.
In the picture below you can see that we locked the crankshaft at TDC but the camshaft is at 180 degrees out and the locking pin isn't fully inserted.
http://www.imac-repairs.co.uk/temp/1.jpg When we removed the belt nothing moved apart from the camshaft sprocket slightly because the nuts where loosened.
As the major problem here is that we didn't set the camshaft at the correct position and the car isn't firing over, how can I resolve this problem?
Can I put the crankshaft back at TDC, lock it in position and have the camshaft crown as close to the top as possible and then manually, without the belt attached, move the cam shaft so that the crown is at the top!!!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
