Pretty sure i'll be leasing next time, and keep my car money in the bank. There have been some fantastic lease deals on there, and not always with a car you'd have considered when spending your own money.
That £166pm (average, taking into account deposit) for a Peugeot 208 GTI for 18 months might have tempted me a few months back, but i'd never buy one.
That 208 deal was really tempting!
I'm 50/50 on whether I'll lease next time or not.
Pro's:
Lack of attachment to the car so you'll just use it, make the most of it and hand it back, no strings.
Con's:
You're stuck with it if it annoys you and it's something not serious enough to reject it.
You've got to see the lease through if something newer and shiner takes your eye (maybe a 12 month lease might be a better bet?)
You can't take it apart and fix the things that us forumites like to fiddle with - we buy our cars and know the areas we'd like to improve upon, so make the car a project (cosmetic bits, aesthetic bits, electronic retro fits, modifications)
Maybe I'd keep my Golf as a long term project and just lease something really cheap as a runabout though. That sh!troen deal above is an example of that way of thinking.
http://www.vwroc.com/forums/forum/67-the-lease-board/ is a very useful place as it's kept pretty up to date and there's a lot of experienced leasers that drop by and newbies too.
