Missing intake manifold cover on 2016 gti
« on: 14 November 2015, 23:14 »
My MY2016 GTI arrived in early October. When I looked under the bonnet it looked a bit 'unfinished'. The dealer (and some internet browsing) suggested that VW has stopped fitting the front engine cover which hides the top of the intake manifold. Cost saving, probably?

I don't generally tinker much with my cars but, even although it was hidden under the bonnet, it irritated me. Cover (VW part: 06k103925aa) and ball connector fitting (06e103164) cost about £35. Easy to fit and looks much better imho.

I'd have posted the before and after pics but I can't see how to do it!

Mine (7 months old) hasn't got one either.

Think I'd have a lot better uses for 35 quid than fitting an engine cover that VW obviously thought was unnecessary ;)

I can't disagree - it was a very overpriced bit of plastic! Just looks better to me than the bare manifold.

It does make the engine look a bit scruffy without the plastic cover.
I had the cover on my 2013 GTI but don't have it on my current car.
If I hadn't been in a rush and had thought about it at the time I'd have whizzed the one out of my GTI's engine bay and kept it.
Again, it depends on how often you open the bonnet and whether you're into under bonnet detailing whether this would bother you much. The one thing the engine covers are useful for is routing, holding and covering over the cables for a tuning box!

I saw a thread on this somewhere. It does seem to be held on pretty firmly if it's properly latched but I may see if there's scope for a judicious cable tie. If it was a big issue, I'd expect to have seen more about it on the www and maybe even a recall to remove it.

Looks good. Always make sure it's still on there after a service or you get any other work done.
