Currently over in the mk6 section with a gti...

Very interested in a mk7 R.

Prices are still a touch steep on my budget but coming down all the time... Looked few month back and cheapest on VW website was kicking about 30k. Now coming down to 25k? Anyone got thoughts on the matter? I was thinking another 6 month and they could be kicking about for 20k. I heard the market was flooded with them at first when they came out due to some "amazing" hire deal VW had on? So few years down the line the market will be flooded  dont know how true this is?

Anyone got any thoughts on the matter? or whether it would be worth going to a broker?

All I'll say is "don't hold your breath for £20k R's unless wrecked ex-leasers in car supermarkets"
The market won't be that flooded as there's been massively long build times as VW only build them in small batches.
There was a spell where there was a lot of dodgy cheap business lease deals that went viral but VW didn't fall over themselves to fulfil all of the orders; heads rolled and production was kept at a normal (slow) level.
There will be a lot of low spec ones hitting the market at around the same time but with the demand for the things I doubt they'll be that cheap and most were underwritten by VW finance so will end up at inflated prices on main dealer forecourts.
The 7R is a bit of a cult car now as it's wins just about every road test comparison in the press and for a 300 bhp hatch is reasonable value if kept to standard-ish spec, therefore it's in the public eye and has had a lot of press. Being as 6R's still fetch a high price despite being vastly inferior to the 7R in all areas except looks I'd not get overly hopeful of £20k bargains if you don't like resprayed panels and chipped alloys.
Buying from a broker is a better bet so long as you have massive patience.
Or, like me you may find a cancelled lease order unexpectedly drop in your lap and end up with an unplanned purchase with zero wait!!!!

20k was probably a bit far but you get my jist hopefully   Prices "seem" to be coming down steadily (from what i have seen), but just dont know. Dont get me wrong, a MK6 GTI owner and a lover of the golf i do really like them but some used prices are ridiculous for lets be honest, only a golf...  :undecided: all be it a very good one!

Any plans on any other versions of mk7 coming out soon? or when is there plans for mk8?

24.5 k I nearly paid for a 15 plate 5dr manual 8k miles, from a Vw dealer this week, 5 months old. I could of pushed it lower I felt but when it came down to it I didn't want white. There have been loads for sale for ages now, even pre reg with delivery miles are taking ages to sell. The private sellers have missed the boat now and are asking more than the dealers, you may pick one up for 21 22k soon privately
GTI manual PP, now sold  :-(

I'd think the part ex prices were heading towards £20k for low spec early R's now.
I'll run a few valuations if I get chance tomorrow.

My GTI dropped £10k in two years going from RRP new and top CAP book price on part ex so there's no reason an R will depreciate much, if any, less over the same time.

There are always weird price anomalies with newish 'in demand' cars and you'll see used ones on the VW forecourts up for £40k and others over £10k less at a similar age and lower spec. Some hang around and some don't.

Chris, the mk8 will be about two years away yet minimum and there's a GTI Clubsport about 9 months off for UK retail.
An R400 may or may not appear next year which will both muddy the waters a bit as far as pricing is concerned.

It's funny some seem to hang around ages and others sell quick.

My dealer had a Red 3 door in couple weeks back, only upgrades were DSG and 19s, they were asking £300 more than what my new one was costing me, it was a year old with 8k miles, sold within 2 days.
Same dealer has a white 5 door DSG, less miles and £3k less than the red one and they can't shift it, go figure
Current: MK7 Golf R (Limestone Grey) DSG, 19 Prets, Winter Pack, Rear Camera, High Beam Assist, Apple Connect, Gloss Black Mirrors
Gone: MK7 Golf R (Tornado Red) DSG, Winter Pack, Keyless, Gloss Black Mirrors

Cheapest 15 plate R i've seen advertised on ebay is £26990 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Golf-2015-2-0-TSI-R-5dr-Hatchback-/321819977498?hash=item4aedf7271a - 5 door manual Tornado Red on 18" Cadiz and no extras. Considering you can get a 12% discount on new, bringing a standard 5 door manual down to £27700 new and expecting to lose an average £1500 every 6 months on it, getting somewhere around £26k after haggling seems about right for a 6 month old example.

I'm expecting to see these on the VW forecourts for around £22k at 3 years old, the same kind of money we're seeing 2 year old GTIs for now.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
MK7 R 5 door, manual, Lapiz Blue, Prets.

Whilst picking up my GTD.My dealer pointed out his 3 new R's.Various specs and colours. Some will hang around, others won't.He said the R is very spec sensitive.'People know  exactly what they want with the R and will take nothing less than what they have asked for. They know the long waiting time and will wait till they get want'.
Current: Golf GTD MK7  3 door manual carbon grey.

Chris1h it was on Vw website this week up at £25980 with a offers tab on it so i did. I knew it was a great price and thought i could run it for a year and sell for 22k easy, cheaper than leasing. It was basically a flip of a coin for me if i had it as white wasn't on my list even tho i do like it but i feel its a bit too much stand out for me. It has sold now but still on auto trader yesterday.

Monkeyhanger i agree they probably will be on at 22k in 3 years but if selling privately to a dealer or px you will struggle to get 15k unless you got a mint low mileage one and sell it privately. I might be wrong but i think it will be more like the MK5 R32 when it comes to holding the price rather than the Mk6 R.
P.s i think you can get 2 year old Gti's from Vw for about 19k now the odd one 18k.

Its horrible to talk about depreciation or us car lovers   but the way i try and look at it what ever you buy its  very rare you'll buy anything people will give you 50% for after you have owned 3 years or even 1 day
