The Passat bi-TDI would be a weapon once tuned. You'd need a 2000 litre bovine piss tank to go with your Diesel tank though!
Pointless having a Clubsport AND an R and even if the CS depreciated more slowly it'd have zero depreciation if you didn't have it at all! Unless it's replacing yet another family vehicle?
I ran three cars briefly, finding time to clean all three was impossible so I sold one.

A bi-TDI, CS & GTD would be an awesome fleet (despite a lot of overlaps).
An R variant, GTD & CS would just be too many overlaps I'd have thought?

Without taking over Booth's thread it will most likely be a Passat estate and the GTD hatch and then depending on what spec we get over here, the Clubsport. When my wife drove the Passat she absolutely loved it over the 100 miles or thereabouts she did in it. As both the Passat and the R estate are DSG if it was up to me I would pick the R, the Passat is over 40k with nice spec but that is without discounts.

We are not even sure yet if we are going to get the Clubsport. Also the reason we need an estate is because we travel a lot to both Ireland and Italy which wasn't a problem in her GTi or my CC because we only had our cat but now we have a dog as well so space is needed.

Wouldn't an R Estate and a GTD hatch meet all your needs?   What's the role of the Clubsport?

Yes it would, now can you tell my wife that. The Clubsport is something we would both like as it will be pretty rare to see them on the roads. The main reason my wife would prefer the Passat estate is because of the newer tech in the car.

Bring her on here and we'll tell her. I know where you are coming from on the rarity point.

I think the Passat Estate looks better than the R Estate, with or without newer tech.

Now let's not go there again about the looks of the R estate  I may have to act like a child again and throw my toys out.

The reason I got the CC was because they are fairly rare, then it seemed everyone got one. At least with the low volumes the Clubsport is going to be made in it will always be rare. Plus it looks like it is going to be a cracking car.

The Passat looks much better in estate form than saloon.
The Golf most definitly does not

Lol.  Keep the toys inthe pramthis time.  I'm really not having a go at the R Estate, I genuinely think the Passat is a better looking estate car, but I'm not in the market for an estate so doesn't matter what I think of it.

Clubsport will be pretty special.

LoL I remember your last spat.

I quite like the look of the R estate but agree the Passat carries it off better however it is massive compared to the Golf. So if its a medium sized estate the R is perfect. Plus the fact it has a dummy exhaust pipe compared to the hatch is surely more of a blow for the hatch rather than the estate if the power is the same on both them?!

It does look like though you are buying cars for the rarity value more than you wanting them. I'd happily buy a mass produced car as long as it fulfilled my needs. Oh wait I do I drive a Golf
Seriously though did VW not say only so many R32's would be produced and then move the goalposts? I might have got my versions mixed up but they did this with one of their "limited editions".

That was the Ed30 Steve.

The R estate might be a bit wrong in the mere fact it exists (although VW group like their fast estates) and the Passat bi-turbo has a beast of an engine but - Jeez is the new Passat frigging ugly from the front.
At least the CC is pretty (and hardly a common car).
Mind you the GTI CS hardly looks pretty. Business like is the most polite comment I can muster (dogs dinner front bumper?). And that pains me as this is the car I *wanted* to love.

And back on topic...

Having been behind three R's this week  I've had a re-think in regards to my rather indifferent views in the past.
I now know that it's not the R that I'm not keen on, it's Lapiz blue
The three R's I saw were white, red and black and they all looked great to me.
I know plenty of people love Lapiz but I think I just hate blue cars.

I love blue cars normally but the first R I ever went and looked at was a badly presented Lapiz on a cold and wet January day.
It really didn't do it for me at all. In fact the looks and the drive did nothing for me having just jumped out of a sexy white GTI with a few enhancements.
The next but one Lapiz blue car I saw was a few months later in bright sunlight and was immaculately clean. It looked amazing.

I know exactly what you mean.  I've never been a blue car person but despite that I did have Lapiz as my second choice.  I love the R in Tornado Red (unlike the Mk6 R which really didn't suit red), but again am not a red car person either, lol.  I do think the Limestone Grey looks very good on the R in the flesh, a head turner.  Course Carbon Grey would have been my second choice (maybe the first) but not an option.   All things considered I like the DBP.  Reflex Silver is also a great colour for the R.

I'm not keen on the R in red at all, and that's from someone who really liked the look of their TR GTD.

I'm not keen on the non performance Golfs on TR either. It had to be Lapiz or DBP for me, but I do like Blue cars after previously having a Rising Blue Scirocco and a string of DBP VWs.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Is tungsten not an option on the R ?
If not, VW have certainly sold the car short as far as colour choice goes.
Off topic but I need to get it off my chest....one of my customers has just bought a new RS3 and it is seriously hideous!!
It is a sh!tty looking orange colour with dark tinted glass and alloy wheels that protrude about 10mm from the tyre.
It also has the completely pointless aluminium look mirrors that clash with everything.
Just thought I'd mention it
