I love Audi estate cars and the odd Volvo but the Golf just doesn't look right for me

Well myself and the wife came to a solution, I cancelled the GTD estate order and ordered a 5 door GTD(she wanted a 3 door) and we are going to get either an R estate or a 240ps Passat estate.

Yes I know a lot of people don't like the Golf estate but I do like the shape, I don't like the lack of LED rear lights though.

BTW only on the forum now as the Wales vs France game is so boring. Roll on Ireland vs England tomorrow.

The Passat bi-TDI would be a weapon once tuned. You'd need a 2000 litre bovine piss tank to go with your Diesel tank though!
Pointless having a Clubsport AND an R and even if the CS depreciated more slowly it'd have zero depreciation if you didn't have it at all! Unless it's replacing yet another family vehicle?
I ran three cars briefly, finding time to clean all three was impossible so I sold one.

A bi-TDI, CS & GTD would be an awesome fleet (despite a lot of overlaps).
An R variant, GTD & CS would just be too many overlaps I'd have thought?

Without taking over Booth's thread it will most likely be a Passat estate and the GTD hatch and then depending on what spec we get over here, the Clubsport. When my wife drove the Passat she absolutely loved it over the 100 miles or thereabouts she did in it. As both the Passat and the R estate are DSG if it was up to me I would pick the R, the Passat is over 40k with nice spec but that is without discounts.

We are not even sure yet if we are going to get the Clubsport. Also the reason we need an estate is because we travel a lot to both Ireland and Italy which wasn't a problem in her GTi or my CC because we only had our cat but now we have a dog as well so space is needed.

Buying a new Passat makes no sense at all due the the initial depreciation, whatever the model.

I've bought my last 2 at around a year old. My current 2.0TDI DSG Sport had a list price of £27,500 and I paid just under £17,000. That was 3 years ago, but the rate of depreciation is still the same today.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Wouldn't an R Estate and a GTD hatch meet all your needs?   What's the role of the Clubsport?

That's basically what I was trying to say!

How's the Pedalbox now Ms B, are you still happy with the same setting?
Do you find you leave it in D more now or do you still prefer to use the paddles quite a bit?

I know, I just said it in fewer words, lol.

PedalBox is my new best friend.  Actually if anything I use Sport and S-manual (paddles) more because it's there that the PedalBox excels for me. Drive is massively improved, but it makes Sport really exhilarating and well.......it's a bit addictive.  Won't help with the fuel consumption though although that's improved since my northern road trip and average long term is now just under 27mpg.  Got 33mpg on the trip home which helped.  It will of course start to decline now I'm back in traffic hell city.

The box setting I'm on (Sport +1) is perfect for DSG in Sport, but I'm half tempted to go +2 for Drive. I don't think I'd go as far as Sport+ setting, maybe just too much. And I was warned off using the Sport+ setting in + by the loaner, as the guy that loaned the box before me did that and it caused the throttle safety to kick in!

All in all very happy indeed.

Got my new Lockwood R sill plates. They come as an 8 piece set with both upper and lower plates but I only needed the uppers as already got the lowers on as part of my original plain set (lowers don't have the R logo).

Just got to remove the plain uppers now and replace with these. That's going to be a job and half.  They've been stuck down for 3 months, hoping I can get them to relinquish their grip with a combination of heating (hairdryer) and some dental floss.

As yet they only do them for the 5dr but have been asking to the company recently and they said they will endeavour to get 3dr ones into production.

New R logo ones.

Yes it would, now can you tell my wife that. The Clubsport is something we would both like as it will be pretty rare to see them on the roads. The main reason my wife would prefer the Passat estate is because of the newer tech in the car.

Bring her on here and we'll tell her. I know where you are coming from on the rarity point.

I think the Passat Estate looks better than the R Estate, with or without newer tech.
