After all your praise of the R, I've gone and done what 18 months ago I couldn't possibly imagine myself doing - I've gone and ordered a Golf R! Admittedly it is the R Estate, but I've gone for lapiz blue

Now begins the very long wait for it to be built. Inchape VW West London are quoting 20 weeks...

Congratulations Jake!  Hope you think it's worth the wait, and that the wait won't be too long and arduous for you.

Look forward to eventually hearing your thoughts too, although I have to tell you I still think an R in Estate form is an abomination.  (sorry)  Though I admit they look better than I originally thought.

Continuing my 'thoughts on the R' - I drove it quite a lot today on various rural roads including tonight (going and returning  from a trip to the cinema to watch the new James Bond film - I won't ruin it for those of you who haven't seen it yet, lol).  Anyway a good chance to experience the High Beam Assist which was a cheap and cheerful option I specced.  Impressive! Works really, really well on those dark long rural roads and seems to intelligently dip the beam at approaching oncoming traffic or if traffic directly in front of you. Worked better than I was expecting and one of what I consider to be proper 'convenience' aids, i.e just makes driving a bit easier without taking over the main decisions.

Also drove it the whole day in Race mode with some paddle action. Apart from the mad Soundaktor droning away, it was a a lively day of driving and the turbo got rather hot under the bonnet.

If anyone is speccing up a car, then this cheap option is well worth considering.

I didn't expect to have much support on this forum for the estate form to be fair!

Well if you're going to go from a GTI to an R then to make it seem a bit different you might as well get a longer version!

Lapiz blue, with the 18" Cadiz wheels, then pretty much every option apart from DCC. I get like a kid in a sweet shop with optional extras it seems...

Very nice spec Jake. DCC not needed with 18's IMO.

Despite my difficulty in coming to terms with an R Estate , I'm really looking forward to seeing yours when it hits these shores!

Car looks superb as ever, FairPlay to ya

I meant to spec High Beam Assist and Reversing camera when ordering my R, during the excitement I forgot clean about these 2 options, when I finnally remembered it was too late

Current: MK7 Golf R (Limestone Grey) DSG, 19 Prets, Winter Pack, Rear Camera, High Beam Assist, Apple Connect, Gloss Black Mirrors
Gone: MK7 Golf R (Tornado Red) DSG, Winter Pack, Keyless, Gloss Black Mirrors
Gone: MK7 Golf GTD (Pure White)

You're not missing anything with the reverse camera apart from a picture of what's behind you, which is often not that interesting.

HBA has been a pleasant surprise, it was something I added as a last minute whim because it was cheap.  Still it's not that hard to push/pull the stalk.  That said I think I've forgotten how to do it now, lol.

Meant to ask Cossieian, how are you getting on with the DSG now?
