I am surprised that there hasn't been more scrutiny of the cars ability/dynamics/mpg/weight now its had some reviews. I know this is a VW forum but i was expecting a fair amount of debate about the car. It only seems the options list and when they can sign up is discussed.  Nothing wrong with that, some on here are clearly VERY keen on VW cars but others I have seen more balance from on topics.

The car is interesting but also a contradiction imo. Karsten most likely wanted to help develop a car people would enjoy on the road and track but it appears lots of things got in the way.  Some of the questions which are about on forums but not on here: Does it use the SEAT engine? Why not use the Golf R engine? Why not use the Brembo Sub 8 brakes from the SEAT too to help its clubsport credentials?  why an overboost?  Is this a gimmick or potential issues from warranty needed to be addressed with this version of engine?  why does it weigh the same as the current GTi, if it's called a"clubsport?  Why offer heavy 19" wheels with the Cup 2 tyres, but not on the special 18" Forged wheels which are 3kg lighter? Can the downforce claims be substantiated at all?

I know its only a Golf and many will never even see the car park at a track day, but not many people took Meganes to track days until they built one which excels at it.  They have missed an opportunity for the 40th anniversary in my opinion, as they have 2 perfectly good cars for standard road duties in the GTI and R.  And they have simple produced a trim level with a remap.  I expressed an interest via emails at my dealer back in Aug after the "ring" pictures,  but i'm now sure I can't drive around in a car called a clubsport without any clubsport credentials, its far too tacky. The clubsport in 5 door is just the icing on the cake if I'm honest...

Volkswagen is lost / Design by committee / Designed to be all things..  a compromise.

As for the seats, they give them away (or they did) on RS Clio...

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

Wow, so went into my local dealers to discuss the clubport.  I semed to know more about the car than the dealer did! but that aside he said that they couldnt get a discount on one due to the scarcity.

Then went on to offer me a new GTI with leather for 26800!  That is 12% off list price.

What to do!

If there is no discount on the club sport it will help my decision making . If they are over subscribed then little chance of discount . However all is not well at Vw and with sales flagging you never no

I am tempted to get a GTI Clubsport, but am still getting those niggles of whether the Golf R would be more for the money.  I will be pricing up both when the order books open for the Clubsport and see what is standard and what I can get discounted on both to help me decide.  It seems like you get a better trim option on one and performance on the other.  I keep thinking if the Clubsport is being compared to keeping up with an R on dry road then if the price is similar and with our climate why don't I just get a Golf R?

Will wait and see when the order books open next year.

VW is a huge company, they need cash flow to keep things ticking along.
When they bring the Clubsport to market are they likely to turn paying customers away?

Look at the Ed30, many quote 1/1500 cars, when there are nearer 2200 in the UK. Porsche were due to bring in 200 Cayman Gt4, they are currently trading at £25-30k over list, more cars are arriving which should bring the total to nearly 400. Mclaren said they would only make 500 LT, now another 500 are arriving in Spyder form.

VW need to sell cars, I wouldn't buy into the hype being generated before it arrives, too much!

Does anybody know if the Clubsport is optimised for 95 RON (like the GTI) or 98 RON fuel (like the R)?

Good question

I think I've said on this thread about a billion times now - this is the Cupra engine which is identical to the R engine.
VW wouldn't have invested hundreds of thousands in a new engine for a limited run model.
In 265 guise it's the same as the basic Cupra and in 290 (overboost button) guise it's the same as the Cupra 290 which is a 300 PS R engine with a different badge on the plastic cover.
So 98 RON.
(And R Mpg too which is the downside!!!)

I would expect the overboost facility would benefit from 98 Ron.

So did they discount the edition 30?  I am told its not a limited edition but a limited release date meaning that the order window will be limited, but that there is no limit to how many within that window.

Its difficult with getting deals like 12% to make a decision.
