I had mentioned, some time ago to the sales man from whom I bought my GTD that I was interested in the Clubsport and if released I would purchase one or alternatively an R.

He emailed me today, said he could secure me a build spot f I paid a small deposit (£250.00 - refundable of course) subject to release details and price.

Time line :-

Tuesday - saw a couple of nearly new Rs that we might have been interested in.

Wednesday - rang the dealers, both of whom said there was no discount on them and the PCP % was over 11%. I said I may as well just buy a new one to which they both agreed. (just out of curiosity, how then will they ever sell those two nearly new Rs?). Anyway, the second dealer says he's got a GTi PP in the compound so why didn't I go and have a look at that. I said I wanted to wait and see the Edition 40 if I was going to go down the GTi route. Dealer says that isn't due for at least another year and that the R400 would see the light first so I agreed that if it was going to be that long we'd go have a look at his GTi.

Thursday - pictures all over Autocar/Auto Bild etc. of Clubsport due "early 2016". Not exactly "at least a year away" methinks so I rings him up to cancel my Sunday appointment cos I want to see the Clubsport in the flesh first. He's not in so I leave a message for the receptionist to ell him.

Friday - I rang again out of politeness to make sure he got the message that I wouldn't be in on Sunday. Receptionist says he'd ring back as soon as he got off the phone. Still waiting ....

Moral 1 - dealers basically haven't got a clue what's going on and I may as well stick to reading Autocar/Auto Bild for info. as they seem t know more.

Moral 2 - stick to the dealer you know (in my case, Donny who've always been good) as the others are clueless/useless/ignorant etc. etc.

This looks simply phenomenal. I can see this one being a future classic straight off.

E-mailed my usual dealer today to keep me informed of allocation etc.

They asked me about R400, so from what I have read elsewhere, I think all dealers have been told / asked / asked to get potential numbers etc on this model.

Maybe gauging if their is a market for this model.

Lets be realistic, its going to be £35-38k when fully specced at least.

Out of my range for a 3 door (which I'd want) hatchback golf.

This looks amazing, but I doubt there's going to be much haggling due to demand

It's something I considered before ordering my gti but I preferred the understated look of the gti and as nice as those seats are they aren't practical for me on a daily basis. I also managed a good discount, that won't be available on the club sport.

They will be a stunning car though.

Looking at prices, surely the Golf CS is going to be not far off R money anyway.

Looking at the SEAT site, the Cupra R 280 is a shade under £28k and the Golf CS has better equipment levels as well as not being the 'semi budget' VAG brand. As well as the Golf being allegedly a limited edition too.

That said, apart from the wheels I'd have one in a heartbeat.
