From a distance the car looks great when washes however up close there's marks all over the paint work? Don't know what they are but claying doesn't seem to get rid.

Would it require a machine polish ? Or any other ideas?

Really hard to photograph btw, kind of like dried water but just won't budge? hopefully you guys get the idea :)

From a distance it's great 😄😄

Mm, very odd. Has the car ever had paint? I wonder if a machine polish may be the only answer as it looks like it needs taking back a bit?

That is weird.  It's hard to tell.  At first it looks like normal orange peel but then many modern cars suffer from that to a certain extent.  Polishing won't get rid of orange peel, you would have to knock it back through wet sanding.  Not something to be enetered into lightly!

Then in the pic with the phone reflection it does look more like water marks.  Do you live in a hard water area?  Has the car had water from hose/jet washer left sitting on it to dry?  That could be it, because claying doesn't always remove water marks.  Certainly on my car, only polishing with a DA has got rid of the  some of the water marks.  In some extreme cases even polishing doesn't work.

Is it the same all over the car?  And has it just recently appeared or has it always been like that?

Thanks guys. No never had paint. As far as I'm aware it's water marks. It may have had it during the summer but I try to dry the car before the water dries but being a black car any sun shine it just bakes :(

So I'm thinking a proper detail with a polish will hopefully get rid of it 😞

Try CarPro 'Spotless' first. It's alot cheaper than getting it detailed.

Just seen this so sorry for the late reply. Have you ever used a 'clay-cloth' on it? In my experience they very often leave marks like this, a light hazing that almost looks like a scourer has been lightly wiped over it.

Will easily polish out, don't worry too much about it but I wouldn't have thought Spotless will do anything for you.

No problem. Not too fussed about it hair annoying lol. Could it be the carbon collective clay mitt that I've used a couple of times? It needs a polish anyway to get rid of some swirl marks. The spotless didn't work you're right lol

Now to find a company to machine polish it  near me :(

Yep, that's exactly what it will be. I love those mitts and have one myself, they are brilliant for quite aggressively removing any contaminants but they do cause marring exactly like what you have seen. All those type of products do. Personally I wouldn't recommend using one unless polishing afterwards. A traditional mild clay is fine for removing light contaminants and most don't need further polishing.

Detailer in Hertfordshire... You're not too far from the team at Auto Finesse, they do detailing in house and have the products to match. Other than that, give Rich @ Refined Details a shout, he's excellent based on what I see over on Detailing World.
