Help, ignition not turning off
« on: 27 August 2015, 00:01 »
Hi

Having a issue with my mk3

Once i start the car and turn it off, the ignition/engine wont turn off even if i take out the key
As soon as ignition is on, it wont turn off without a battery disconnect.

Would this be a immobilser fault?
As have ordered a bypass kit for that but had issues with a faulty board so waiting on a new one to see if it works.

No, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with immobiliser. Bypass kit not required.
Although have just read your other thread..... rather than fit a bogus bypass thing just diagnose issue. Usually just a dead reader coil, or faulty chip.... if it's the latter just get a new transponder matched, anyone with VCDS or similar can do if you have the SKC.

Your problem with it staying is probably caused by a faulty ignition switch.... i.e. the electrical part of it (and usually only that in case you're thinking of getting the whole thing).
Replacement part is cheap but steering wheel needs to come off as well as bush behind it (puller required) so a bit of a fuff. Or other electrical fault or wrong connections made when transplanting engine.

Ignition switch replacement is fairly simple.you can leave steering wheel on and no puller is required.

See :- http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3445064

I did one a week ago, took 30 minuts all done.

Get yourself a wiring diagram and trace from ignition switch to central electrics and so forth....
