Sat Nav-Slow to track
« on: 24 August 2015, 08:11 »
Does anyone else have the same issue with there sat nav dis pro?  On start up it clearly finds my location but after loading a destination it takes about 5 mins after I start driving to catch up on the map?  During this time the MFD shows "off road"

It's fine after this but this happens at the beginning of most journey's regardless of where I depart from.

Obviously a GPS fix thing with regards to satellite location but I would be interested if anyone else has the same issue.  Latest maps installed but no change.

Thanks

Nope, it might take a few seconds, but nothing like 5 minutes.

I'm assuming you don't live somewhere with a poor sky view?

If you just go into the nav screen, does it show your current position correctly? Albeit that it can do that without a GPS signal using inertial navigation from the last know GPS point - so check the GPS signal status icon - does it have a line through it?

Same ^

My old RNS in my mk5 Gti did this a couple of times, when in map mode, press nav & bring up the signal strength/No of satellites, make sure it's strong or a good number

maybe not signal strength, but it should show you how many satellites your picking up, e.g. if you have say 10/12 satellites then thats good - if you have 1/12 or a low number it would indicate a poor signal and possible a fault with your antenna.

On my old RNS in the the MK5 GTi i didn't have a roof mounted antenna, so a common issue was that the GPS unit would have shifted under the dash or was defective.

I agree a possible antenna fault but there is nowhere on the dis pro to look at satellites or signal strength.  The only way is via VCDS

If you start up Nav and have it on Map, press the Nav button and it brings up a sub menu on the left hand side of the map, there is a drop down menu, click it on to GPS and it should show you the satelites and your location.

Ah..... I see from your other post you've found out how to do it

Yes but thank you for your help - update unit rebooted by holding off button down to enable a cold start so to speak.  Destination entered satellites info display 10 locked except going under wooded area dropped to 9 perfect navigation no "off roading events" weather awful but everything else perfect.  Even tried to fool it by going a different way by re routed almost immediately.  Vast improvement over this mornings trip and others recently.  Will check again in the morning, perhaps a cold rebooted is required after a map update ?

Thanks to all for there input
