stop start function
« on: 12 August 2015, 16:46 »
Apologies if this is the stupidest thing anyone on here has asked but....

the stop start function. Doesn't seem to be on. Have checked that it is turned on and it is but i f i stop at light, put it into neutral the engine just keeps ticking over.

Depends on a few different scinarios whether it works or not. ie if the engine is not at a certain temp, if the car is going through a regen, if you have the AC on etc etc

You should get a A in a circle with a line through it on the MFD (between the speedo and the rev counter).

Just because air con is on, doesn't mean it won't stop btw.... only if its actively heating or cooling. If you have climate set to auto and the temp inside the car is the same as you set then auto stop will work.

And take your foot off of the clutch!

I have a list somewhere of the criteria for the stop-start to function, it really is ridiculous. Apparently you need to have your seat belt on too!

Why is it ridiculous?

All about energy management and to some extent comfort of the passenger (e.g. actual temp within 8 degrees of set temp).

@OP How do you use a clutch too much?

Some of the criteria are stupid .....steering angle to great for example.

Apparently you're not allowed to stop in traffic on a tight corner lol

I find in mine you need to apply a certain level of pressure to the brake pedal for it to kick in, otherwise the engine remains on. Find it quite convenient as if I know I'm only going to be stopped very briefly then you can avoid it coming on.

I agree with this.If you regulate the amount of pressure applied to the break pedal, the engine won't cut out.If I am going to be stopped for some time I simply put the break pedal to the floor and the engine usually cuts out, unless I have the air con on full soon after starting a journey.I get the impression that it works more favourable with DSG,don't know if I am right with this assumption though.
