New Mib II
« on: 07 August 2015, 21:19 »
Had a good look and play round a brand new Tiguan today with the new discover nav unit. The screen and graphics are no different to my nav pro but I'm sure someone mentioned on here that it's way better than the units that are MiB I. It certainly didn't look or feel any different to my nav pro.

A lot of the underlying internals are different. I guess it's like iPhone 6 to 6s... faster processor, etc. If you are used to the Pro, then the differences may not be so obvious but it's a big step up for the MIB 1 discover media. Aside from the larger screen it has... off the top of my head:

- higher resolution
- carPlay / Android auto support
- improved bluetooth support (you can connect multiple devices simultaneously)
- radio stations auto-load (no need to upload them yourself)
- features like Voice control (if not factory fitted) can be dealer activated

I believe the Nav Pro has Google Street View (as part of car-net)... maybe not in the UK but in some regions at least.

So you can connect 2 phones at the same time, or, say a phone and an iPod?   That's a welcome addition.

I got the Nav Pro myself, partly to future proof the car (as much as you can).   Car Net has been available since the car's launch - just not in the UK until now.  Which is a real pain because up until now, you've not been able to use google street view.

I am led to believe that even on MIB 1 Discover units the voice control can be activated.

I've always been able to attach two devices to my Nav Pro - you just change which one you want to be the primary device.

Sadly there seems to be no way of easily upgrading MIB1 to MIB2 - but. hey, that happens :)

Looking forward to hearing more about MIB 2

From what I understand, the main MIB II processor upgrades apple to the DNS system (rather than the DNS Pro) - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The Discover now has a 6.5" (from 5.8") as standard, and includes the car-net online services, as well as app-connect. The screen resolution has also been bumped up. Oh and I believe they've finally ditched the propietary cables for USB socket!

Faster processors. The new generation of devices is characterised by better system performance. Consider the “Discover Media”, the radio-navigation system with 6.5-inch display: Compared to the first generation, performance of the CPU (main processor) was more than doubled from 950 MIPS (million instructions per second) to 2,500 MIPS.

The DNS Pro, from what I understand has mainly seen the online services finally being included on UK cars, as well as app-connect as an option (CarPlay/Android Auto as well as MirrorLink).

My car has arrived to UK, but am holding  off until 65 plate in Spetember. I've ordered the tech pack (so DNS Pro) and also app connect. I'll try and post impressions once I get car ..getting anxious already!!

I don't think the screen resolution is any different to my nav pro as it was always higher than other units anyway. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining especially as apart from an inch and a half screen size I'm basically getting a nav pro for free in the Tiguan it's just I thought the screen resolution would be higher but it's not.

Yes Rebecca, that's my understanding. Maybe they'll be onto MIB 3 by the time they build your car  (sorry!!!)

That would be even funnier Joe, if there wasn't a real possibility it could be true

Still haven't quite got the best sense of humour over it

Wasn't helped by receiving one of those cringe making VW VIP event invitations in this morning's post.  "This will be no ordinary event......your chance to drive away a brand new car".....blah, blah, blah!

Arghhh!

Had one in a new polo courtesy. Looks a lot sharper than my GTD. even the Mrs noticed the dif in resolution. Plus the other features just make it better than the one I have

The resolution is 800 x 640, same as the Nav Pro, isn't it? That'll mean the screen is sharper - same pixels, smaller area
