Has anyone gone to a dealer to ask about the "activation codes" for things like App-Connect and Voice activation?

When i select these options on the unit it tells me a dealer can activate...im just curious at the amount of wedge they would want for it

It seems that the new head-units/cars have all the tech inside ready to go, so its a little bit of a piss take that VW will charge £100 for App-Connect as an extra, but all they have to do it punch in a code to unlock it!!!

Funny enough this was going to be my next question -

Even though the MIB has been upgraded from I to II you still need to by the optional £100 Car-Net-App Connect so you can use Android Auto, MirrorLink and CarPlay, but from the looks of the unit doesnt need any added hardware to make this service work. Its just the case the software need to be "activated", does anyone know if this can be done via VCDS or do you have to fork out an extra £100 with the dealer?

Thanks

I am yet to pick up my new GTI.

When I spoke to the dealer at the weekend, I asked if it was possible for the dealer to fit/activate the £100 App-Connect option.  He very clearly told me that this was a factory option and no way the dealers could do it.

Strange how the message on the screen says please contact your dealer for an activation code. I think it's another case of dealers not having a clue!

Your dealer might leading you down the garden path!

As far as I can tell the App-Connected isn't a piece of hardware which is added onto the MIB II, it is all software based, so cant see why the dealer couldn't activate it with a software upgrade or an unlock code.

I am due a call with my dealer tomorrow so I will ask them the same question and see what they come up with.

Would be great to know what your dealer says.

Here is the written confirmation from my dealer....

"Car has been received into our compound and will be due on site over the next 48 hours....

Car net app connect can only be factory fitted so dealer fit is not possible.

I  hope this helps and i look forward to speaking to you again soon."

Interesting they are fitting this to the Tiguan, didn't realise older models were getting the MIB II also.

Well I have been doing some digging around on the internet and have found some interesting threads on other forums -

Quote
FYI for all those looking to retrofit App Connect on their MIB2 systems: discussions in German forums now expect for the activation code to be available via the parts catalogue by October the latest (confirmed by a few German dealerships).

Link to the German thread below -

So to sum it up you can activate the App-Connect via your dealer if you buy a activation code from them; its just that VW haven't released the code as a buyable option in their current catalogue.
