There's a good lease deal on Scirocco Rs at the moment (not looking to change - the Scirocco is getting a bit long in a tooth for me), and I was surprised to see that a 280ps 2WD Scirocco comes in at 11% thirstier than a 4WD Golf R.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I never get this kind of consumption

Likewise!

My R has now passed the 1000 mile mark and I'm starting to explore what it can do a bit more now.
Have any other R owners noticed a tendency for the inner rear wheel to brake on a fast but sharp corner, almost like the car is using that wheel as a pivot rather than powering the car around? These are the sort of corners the PP GTI would just dig in and blast round but the R seems less happy.
No, I'm not going to blame the Bridgestones!!!

You know they are the culprit! Time you marked the 1k mile anniversary with a nice set of PSS!

If I end up getting 27- 28 mpg average with mine, I will be very happy.  I just about scrape that with my GTI.

how do you get that low on your GTI Memsahib B? Do you hammer it everywhere in Sport mode or are you forever sat at traffic lights with your immaculately manicured fingernail inserted into your left nostril? (The ONLY reasons anyone would buy an automatic gearbox)

Unfortunately I'm far too poor to invest in shiny new French rubber so I'll have to make do.
Car insurance looming too (not cheap with teenage sons insured to drive my elderly GTI).
Besides if I was going to invest in new rubber I'd end up buying new wheels too and I've been working hard these last few years to break my bad old habits. I've still got my 19's off the GTI sat in the garage shod with Contis that might make an appearance one day.

I'm going to keep well away from tyre threads to keep temptation well out of my way!

Well let's just say I just drive my GTI properly!  (but, yes, there are many, many traffic lights in my life!)

I can confirm that I neither pick my nose, nor have perfectly manicured fingernails (detailing and long nails are not a match made in heaven).  But you have given me an insight into what you might do with your spare fingers, should you ever (God forbid) move over to the Darkness that is DSG.

As you are nobly trying to wean yourself off shiny new alloy and quality rubber, I will cease to put temptation in your way, but do stay away from the rubber threads, lest you fall off the wagon!!

Based on your GTI average I would suggest it will be closer to 21-22mpg

^^
27-28mpg is what I get around town but it does creep upwards to the mid 30's elsewhere.  Canterbury is a very congested small city so there is a lot of time spent sitting in static traffic, but nor do I drive like a nun.  And of course that's in a Mk6.

Yes, obviously I am expecting lower with the R than my GTI average, somewhere in the region of 23-24mpg for town driving I expect, and something like 27-28+ for longer runs, once it's got a few miles on the clock.

Tbh, the mpg is not a concern.
