Not sure if its just me, but my xenon headlights throw light way to short, I cannot drive above 40 mph on country lanes as a fear of crashing.

Here is a guide how best to adjust your xexon headlights.

There are two options

A) Manual adjust
B) Adjust via VCDS - Ross tech.

I've seen a few posts about people suggestion option B is best, but in fact, after speaking with a qualified mechanic this is not setting true point. To set true point, you should do so by connect VCDS, select the xenon adjust function and adjust the lighting on a beam setter.

Option A with wall reference. This is not a calibrated or certified. This is just to help you understand how to set a beam. All beam setting must be done on calibrated equipment at an MOT centre.

STEP 1: Find a flat car park with a wall. With bricks is best and road lines to gauge.

STEP 2: Place the car a couple of car lengths away and rest the back rear wheel centre on the line.

STEP 4: Turn your headlights on, pop the bonnet up and grab your allen key, think it was a 6mm and camera

STEP 5: Take a photo of the back of your car & one of the light beamed against the wall

STEP 6:
Under the hood, got to your headlamp, you will see to allen key type plastic bolt heads as adjustment points.
The white one is the up and down, the other is left and right so avoid.
Put your alley in the hole, at a time give. (mine is 17.00 hours). Take a photo for future ref.

STEP 7: Turn the key anti clockwise to raise the beam. Count the exact number of rotations and stop at the same time. I did 3. It's more than you expect. (Clockwise drops the beam).

STEP 8: Repeat process on other side. Count.

STEP 9: Pull the car back and see how the beam falls, you might think its too high. Check it against another Golf friend with calibrated lights.

EMAIL THE PHOTOS YOU TOOK AND THE EXACT NUMBER OF TURN YOU DID SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOUR OLD SET POINT WAS, SHOULD YOU NEED TO DEFAULT.

STEP 10: Test drive the car at night, remember, DO NOT have the beam set that high as to blind oncoming traffic.
You only need it to shine the road in front of you, it should not be lighting up the surrounding side, area's, sign posts OR cars or people. If so, you should drop the light.
If you are being flashed, drop the headlights immediately and get it set at an any MOT centre.

This is only a guide to those that have a good reference to light beams. More photos in the photo bucket...
