My 2010 MK6 GTI
« on: 24 June 2015, 19:29 »
Hey all

Been a member of various forums over the years, was an early adopter of Volkszone and still own a '65 beetle that I can't ever see myself getting rid of. I have always been one for messing about with motors, but had kept it to 'simple' less expensive cars (couple of MK1's, a MK4 GTI) until now......

The old girl

The new girl

I bought my 2010 DSG with 30,000 on the clock. It was Boggo standard with the 17" Monzas and cloth interior. That lasted about a week before I bought some Genuine BBS LM's. Since the age of about 12 I have always wanted a set of these, but DIY, babies, having sh*t cars always stopped me finding the cash. This time round I thought why not!!!

This was all about 1 1/2 years ago. Since then a lot has happened and it's a bit faster and a bit better round corners, I'll sort some more pictures out and update the rest later.

Tim

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum. The BBS's look great with Tornado Red paintwork. Nice Beetle too; I've always had a bit of a soft spot for old VW's.

Thanks guys

So to bring the BBS story upto date, I ran them with the grey centres for a year

After a while I realised I wasn't 100% happy as I thought they looked a little lost in the arches, someone suggested putting them back to silver may trick the eye and they would appear bigger. So a couple of months ago, with the aid of the boy apprentice, we split them again and they are now back to stock! It's worked too, they look much better.
I can highly recommend Goodyear Eagle F1's very balanced tyre in wet or dry, gives a nice amount of feedback too. What's everyone else running?

Engine wise I started with Revo Stage 1. I was convinced this was all I needed, it was fine, step away from the Revo dealership...... Then I went Stage 2

After going stage 2 I started looking at intercoolers and as I sometimes do, I end up fixated on a subject until I have visited every last web site on the subject! I eventually settled on a Wagner tuning setup, had heard (read) a lot of good things from the Porsche and Audi brigade and it seemed a good price. It turned up from Germany in just a few days, and although it took a bit of fudging to fit, the quality is certainly very good indeed.

I also wanted to keep it semi-OEM, so choose to go with VWR for some of the parts. The intake has to be my fav as it looks great and the fit was perfect. Improves that engine bay I reckon!

Last one for tonight..... I promise

I wanted to keep the interior standard, but didn't get on with either the DSG paddles or the piano black trim (especially as it had been scratched by the previous owner).

So I went with the old 3M wrap, but kept it to just the trim across the doors and stripe along the dash (there is a fine line when wrapping in my opinion, too much and you can end up with a Halfords special lookalike)

I also bought some expensive Maniacs DSG extension paddles from PSI tuning (which are great), but about a week later I then found loads on EBay for a fraction of the price!.

Lovely car mate! Great colour and wheels are 😎😎😎

Do you have any more pics of the 3m vinyl or the trim pieces? I want to try the same as my door trim pieces are scratched by previous owner :(

Wheels look perfect stock imo, really make the car sing

The interior looks nice.  Less is more with wrap, so think you've kept it nice and subtle.  The oem paddles are rubbish.  I'm going to get some paddle extentions for my R but will decide what type/finish when get the car (due later ths year).

Running ContiSportContact 5ps which have been superb in wet and dry conditions.  However if my R comes shod with Bridgestones (likely) then I'll be swapping them for Michelin Pilot Super Sports (19s) as I fancy a change and they get the thumbs up from some respected members on here.

I was all for getting some Pilot super sports, but they were in very short supply when I needed them, couldn't get any for love nor money!

It's what I plan on fitting when the Eagles are out of tread
