hello all, I've recently done an engine swap from my wee little 1.3 to an 1.8 gti, removed the gti inlet and converted it to carbs, twin 40 webers to be exact.
the new engine works as I drove it home, it sparks, is getting fuel, turns over but won't just fire and go..

I've uprated..
red top fuel pump
malpassi filter king regulator
Sytec adjustable fuel regulator
Lucas high output coil pack
Magecor 8mm ht Leads
and standard service

so any advice that be grand :)

I bet money on ignition timing. You need the dizzy loose and to twist it back and forth as someone cranks it.

cheers sgt lemon, I shall let you know if it works, one other thing tho, I swapped the brake servo over and now the far left carb filter won't fit, what have people done, i can't run it without a trumpet or filter

Ok moved the dizzy around while the engine was cranking, it made no difference what's the ever, any other clues?

have you blocked of fuel injector ports in head? also a digi dizzy is no use as it has no mechanical advance. you need an early mk2 k-jet one or even late mk1.

I've left the injectors in, thought that would work unless you have a better idea? so would a dizzy of a 1.8 driver work?

yeah leaving the injectors in wouldn't cause an issue. yeah driver dizzy would be a step in the right direction but the gti one has a better advance curve for your engine spec.
