When I chopped in my mk 7 GTI (one year old) the price one of the dealers gave me was so laughable - especially as they had a mk 6 GTI right outside the windown on for 4K more than they were offering me for mine - I also walked out (after pointing to the one on the forecourt).  Just cause they're in the selling game does not make them good sales people!

They will always try to make £4k on a nearly new VW performance Golf if you let them. That is perfectly fine with me if I get 12% off the new one - it is hard to get a great deal both ends. They will want 15% margin in any used car after a bit of haggling. For this reason it's best to sell privately for £2k less than forecourt prices and everyone wins (except the garage), if you can put up with the tyre kickers and time wasters.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Oh yes, I've no problem with them making a profit - but this particular salesman wanted to offer me 16k for a one year old fully loaded GTI PP and then offer me zero discount on an R.  I told him to jog on!

Had the same experience today, left my car in for its first service, thought I would price a new GTD DSG with a few options. So price came in at £30,500,
Sales guy gets on the calculator and says, yes so it will be £11k to change you current car (2014 GTD), that was based on a trade in of £19k (which was ok) but only £500 discount on the new car, didn't even look like he wanted to try and deal, if he'd of been around £7-8k to change I would be tempted, but £11k NO THANKS

Cossieian: £500 discount? Was that inclusive of £1250 deposit contribution (if you're PCPing)? If you are a cash buyer normally then you can get it on PCP to get that and get out of the finance within the 14 day cooling off period, pay the settlement fee, and pocket the £1250 deposit contribution (they can't take it off you). I had this tactic confirmed by a broker I was getting a Polo GTI quote for recently (I think it was drivethedeal).

No mate that didn't include the £1250 contribution, when I asked about the contribution from VW he replied " there's no such thing", absolute bell end, he thought I was a mug that didn't have a clue, in the end I just got up and walked out

Bellend is putting it mildly.

Try somewhere else if you're still thinking about changing.

Unfortunately you were the one in the wrong. The deposit contribution does not apply to GTD and R models....

My mistake, for some reason I thought I read Cissieian was after a GTI PP. Not sure where I got that from.

Everyone keeps saying "try somewhere else if you want to get a new one" to everyone else on here as they share their horror stories of dealing with these "salesmen".

When I was looking round for my current car I must have left my details and what I wanted with most VW dealers in South Yorkshire and suitable Gti's would appear on their websites and not of the fucwits would have the gumption to ring me.

I think they must all be the same.

Granted. A lot of them are utter K***heads who don't know their arse from their elbow and spew utter drivel. They are not all the same and when you find a good one it will restore your faith .
