Gesture Control

Do you think they'll also equip it with an ejector seat when you stick two fingers up to it because of all the bloody rattling

Will the Edition 40 GTI and Golf R400 miss this option being available when they are initially released.  As the article states it will be on the face lift launch for the MK7 at the end of 2016.  From what I have heard and read the edition 40 and Golf R400 will be released around the beginning to mid 2016.  This option is a major upgrade for the interior which I would hope to have on my next car.  It  could also mean the difference of ordering a car later just to have the option available for order? A 13" screen would be great.

Although having everything as touch screen may take some getting used to.

Whilst the renders look cool as hell, my worry in where this tech is going is what happens when it goes wrong. Currently for instance, if the infotainment screen locks up then currently all you really loose is access to music and / or sat nav guidance, but the car is still drivable.

With no buttons in the car in future, and using only gestures etc. what if the software locks up (as they occasionally do), what happens to lights, heating, windows etc do they all stop working or will they have a redundancy back-up.

Can't image the dealers being too impressed by this tech either, they are still struggling with the tech that entered with the MQB platform.

I don't think we are ready for this yet!  I certainly wouldn't buy one of the first cars with this system.

You're right, full expert technical support would be critical, and given most VW dealerships can barely remove the transport pucks I would have little confidence in them sorting out bugs in this type of system.  Can we expect a VW Genius Bar at each dealership?  I can see them in their T shirts now!

Didn't they say it would now be new model every 5 years and facelift every 3 years?
