So a lot of back and fourth with the dealer!

"I have looked at all of the history with us and VW and there is no report of any work being done with those bolts ,if it was done at factory I would like to think they wound not leave the edges unpainted and the paint broken on the bolts."

I respond asking them to check directly with VW and also check other MK7s

"I have checked 2 other golfs and the hinges are pained at factory on the tailgate and then fitted all of the other  cars have no markings on the bolts or unpainted areas showing on the tailgates."

So basically not willing to help or assist at all..... Just waiting for the bodyshop quote to correct/fix then I'll push back again.

Anyone had success getting a dealer to sort this where there is evidence of previous 'tampering' (even if done at factory!) with the boot bolts/alignment?

Just had my dealer fobbed me off with the 6000 miles thing. Next service I'm going to say it's a paint defect :) see if that gets me anywhere

If they realigned the boot at the factory, they'd break the paint lines, but would they get the bolts resprayed? Seriously doubt it. They are robbing you off. Try another dealership group.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Fair - is there evidence of 'previous alignment' (paint rubbed off) on your bolts and hinges?

Morning all

My 2013 is doing this, so I visited the nearest dealer with a bodyshop.

They acknowledged that my car is otherwise immaculate and very well cared for, with original paint and no prior adjustments to the hatch. However, as my car is just over 2 1/2 years old, they say that adjustment and paint repair is not covered under any form of warranty, as adjustments are only free within the first 6 months!

Can anyone help? Anyone else experienced this and had it repaired free of charge? Any info much appreciated before I contact customer services.

Cheers all

This appears to be a fairly common issue and shouldn't happen at all on a new car.

I had it on both sides - paint worn right through on the left side leaving a deep score in the bumper.

Took it to the dealer, they took photos and sent them to VW. Was booked in to their body shop under warranty for full bumper repaint and touch up of the tailgate.

At the time mine was 18mths old and 19k miles.

Many thanks for your reply.

This is just the sort of information that might help support my case.

Any chance you might share a little more detail please?

Many thanks

Hi

Would really appreciate any details of your repair? Perhaps the dealer name, dates, reg, photos, what they adjusted etc?

Any help would be appreciated.
