Mk7 Rear Bumper paint rubbing off?
« on: 05 May 2015, 12:11 »
Hi sorry if this has been covered before however I was unable to find any info on this.

I have a Mk7 GTD which has covered just over 10k now(car 10 months old). While giving the car a good clean/polish I noticed that where the tailgate meets the rear bumper at each corner the paint on the bumper is wearing away as it would appear the tailgate is hitting it. Now visibly from looking at the back of the car there is a substantial gap between the tailgate and the bumper and when closing the tailgate it doesn't appear to hit the bumper. I not sure if the bumper moves when the car is being driven. I was concerned initially and thought this seemed odd so I had a look at a friends GTI same age 5K miles and although not as bad is starting to do the same thing.

Just wondered if you guys had noticed the same or if you could have a look. I would have posted pictures bit the weather is awful today lol.

The bumper must be pushing upwards when being driven, air must get trapped behind it making it come into contact with the boot. That is still a of movement in the bumper as the shut line normally around that area is quite bit.

Maybe another reason could be how hard you shut the boot, possibly the corners of the boot might  be flexing if the boot is shut hard.

I would be interested in seeing pics. I had similar last year in 2 small lines about an inch in length, but got it down to VW to realign the boot and they polished out fortunatly. Maybe similar but I had a rattle start the same time which made me look.

Any knocking over harsh bumps when driving?

You need to copy and paste the IMG code into your post (the code in the last box starting with URL).

Glad you got the pics sorted
