My 63 plate GTD has been into the local dealer today with exactly the same problem.  Boot is being realigned, awaiting confirmation as to what will happen with the paintwork.

I after 500 miles from new have the very same problem!

Was there a definitive solution for this problem?

I had similar, but not as bad as the pics here. I took it straight to VW and they realigned the boot and fortunately they polished out the marks.

Exactly the same issue and this thread has just reminded me to book the car in to get it sorted.

Will keep you all posted.

So the car is in the dealers today to have this looked at. Apparently, there are signs of 'wear' on the bolt that hold the boot in-place as if someone has previously taken a spanner to them! Well it certainly wasn't me I reply to Mr Customer Service agent...

He's apparently now taking it to the bodyshop for them to take a look..

If it's alignment (which it's looking like it is) this isn't apparently covered by warranty as is considered 'wear & tear' unless reported in the first 6 month's of ownership/1,000 miles. Similar to wheel and door alignment so they say.

Not happy - so going to argue the point once the bodyshop have had a look.

Other have got this done under warranty right? How old was the car at the time?

I've seen that on loads of MK7's, including a little bit on my own. It's done in the factory. They obviously adjust a few nuts and bolts after they've painted it...

Thanks Guys - so collected the car and they basically said this won't be covered under warranty as it's not within 6 months / 6,000 miles and there are no 'failed parts'.

Waiting for the quote but they have said the bodyshop will need to realign/adjust. They can see clear previous 'adjustment' (paint rubbed off) on the bolt/boot area which they showed me. No history that this has ever been done and I certainly haven't touched it!

Very interesting that you guys are also seeing a similar issue and evidence that this is clearly adjusted at the factory AFTER painting! I'll use this in discussions with them.

Do you think I should challenge directly with VWCS?

Update: Email from dealer "I have checked 2 other golfs and the hinges are pained at factory on the tailgate and then fitted all of the other  cars have no markings on the bolts or unpainted areas showing on the tailgates."...

Not happy. :-(

I'd contest it mate, as Joe says there are loads about that had the tailgate adjusted prior to delivery.
