A bit cheesed off with it all to be honest. Still torn between the two cars. And the 5-8 month wait makes me want to vomit to be honest :-P

If you're serious about a BMW, get rid of your car privately, some of the performance diesel BMWs like the 330D and 335D X-drive have 24.5% off at coast2coast cars (broker) - you won't get half of that off at Coopers/Stratstone in Tyne/Wear (I enquired).

You could leave the options alone (or most of them) - there's a fair bit of genuinely useful standard equipment, most of the things you'd need to spec are quite cheap options and metallic paint is "free".

Your get 18% min discount easily off a 335d m sport.

Remember the ride height is a little on the high side with the 335d x drive. Personally I'd go for the 330d m sport.

Annoyingly carwow and the like don't have the latest configurator options, so it's really a pain to get the right price...

Annoying yes. But once you have a good discounted price in from a carwow dealer, simply contact them through the website and get them to send you a formal quote with the correctly priced config options.

A 15% discount should be achievable.

Better off using Drive the Deal - the VWFS deposit contribution is common to any deal involving finance (apart from GTD and R models).

Looking at about 11k off a 335d and 5.4% apr. Ride height is a problem, but to be honest not something which would bother me massively. I reckon monthly payments would be similar to the R. 0-60 is the same. 40mpg vs 30mpg. Handling, the R probably takes it. But I think the BMW would win on comfort. Hmmm.

The 4 series Grand Coupe 330d m sport would be my choice!

Last time I looked, the 4 series didn't have nearly as much money off as the 3 series - must be easily shifted at 12% discount.
