What gets me is why it can't be straightforward?

With halogen lights there is a wire that goes to the main beam bulb and illuminates it when it's powered. Why can't the same wire be powered to keep the shutter in the main beam position on a xenon lamp in just the same way?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Checked my old BCM 086M and it doesn't have the shutter wires.

Think some wise owls actually worked that out that the high beam power would trigger the shutters. Think Hawkeen on the American forum did some cleaning up of the wiring diagrams which were floating about.

The wiring adaptors that came with my lights, allow the shutter to work. I plugged them in before handing the money over and was surprised when they flicked up!
Not sure if they work with lights off though, think that may just be a bit of coding too?

Did the harnesses have a long wire coming from them, if not i think i know where they came from. You really want to document them. Photos if possible.

And some more info HERE.

Is it still possible to get the AFS module to work with this workaround or does that need the 087 version?

Ohh, more helpful links, and there was me thinking I must've read all of them with the amount I have read on this subject!

Mine have no long leads to go to the bcm, the sh!tter wire is from what would've been the high beam wire. I've already I taped it and checked it out. I'll grab some pics later.

I'm hoping afs won't be affected by what bcm is fitted, fingers crossed!

Me thinks we'd have to either start looking at an auto scan for a golf R? It has AFS it would be interesting to see BCM version.

As for info bucket loads out there, bit of a mine field!

It wasn't until i asked Mike the question "are the kufatec adaptor wires joined together" they would make the loom like that.It isn't until you dig deeper that you find out that some of the main looms are different. We used this http://volksurf.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/bi-xenon-led-retrofit-diy.html and if you read down think its in red writing about joining the wires 10 and 12 to get the leds to work. What a pain that gave me!

Plus when i checked lots of long codes my byte 13 was 04, everybody's is 00. I asked Ross Tech and they said undocumented byte they didn't know what it did. It may well have been like byte 18 with 00 hiding the real code. I just went for it and changed it to 00 and with Mike's long code help all went well

I'd imagine all cars with xenons from the factory will have the 087, as they will have the shutters wired 'properly'.

Tbh, any threads that I've read that say join 2 wire together I've pretty much stopped reading, I don't wantbto bodge it, I wantbto do it properly.
